Just SKI-ed home from a three night stay in Windsor. We took our nine year old gd, had a wonderful time. So lovely to see Windsor castle through the eyes of a nine year old girl!

We have gone the whole hog re skiing and now live in a genuine eco house in the middle of rural England, in a tiny village. I have just downloaded all the bus timetables and we will have bus access to lots of beautiful places via the local village bus, so we aren`t completely isolated. The locals have been supremely welcoming and kind and we already feel very settled and at home. All this and `shock horror` our old home has sold but not yet exchanged. Well we spent ALL our savings on this, something we have wanted for ever and why not

We dropped the price a lot to make sure that we sold. We two won`t lose out but in the fullness of time our children will as we have virtually `spent` a chunk of our life savings in the price difference as this new home was quite a bit more expensive. You can`t put a price on living a stress-free life. Now I am off to the allotment, surrounded by apple trees and with a stunning view. No more holidays are planned for us as this life is idyllic

You're quite right to live your dream Kittie. It's time we thought more about ourselves than the children although it's hard to break a lifetime's habit.

    How wonderful, kittie. Enjoy immensely!

My husband has just gone out on his 'fast and powerful' motorbike that he bought a few weeks ago, just to ride it and enjoy himself. The new large shed/workshop we also bought a few weeks ago is erected, painted (in purple!), and has shelves fitted. The bathroom is being re-fitted with a walk-in shower tomorrow. The wall boards for the back of the shower cost more than a month's worth of my State Pension.

An eco house sounds absolutely wondeful, kittie. Hope you will have many years of happiness there.

You'll have to PM me a warning, so I can stay in! ;)

Seriously, we do have problem with 'packs' of bikers trying to keep up with each other and zooming around our bending roads.

Enjoy your rides on the back, though!

    We're planning our next 'getaways'.

September: maybe the English Democrats' Conference. That's a 'maybe'.

October: a weekend get-together of the Metcalfe Society at Hawes, Wensleydale. We've booked a 2-night stay here: http://www.templefarmhouse.co.uk/

Christmas: we're thinking of getting across the Channel. Have been looking at the Ardennes, north-eastern France.

Last Christmas was a bit of a fiasco, although we enjoyed getting out and about - the Christmas Eve service in Coventry Cathedral was the highlight. The Britannia Hotel 4 miles outside Coventry - the less said the better.

I'm going off Skiing next week a week or so in Gibralter with son and partner, then a few days in Spain with my brother, sadly its now spoiled as my son and partner have parted after a few years tog, she's like my own daughter and I'm not dealing with it very well, he's in bits and I'm supposed to be supporting him but every time I think about her I well up she is such a beautiful person and I know she hasn't made this decision lightly.. I feel like am beareaved so I can only imagine how he is feeling... he says hes so glad I am going out so he has someone to talk things through with... they still care so much for each other and are trying to stay friends.. I feel so foolish its just a relationship breakup after all but they had such plans and now its all hit the buffers... sorry for writing a book...
I'll enjoy the sunshine and beach anyway...
