I can stay on. It's getting on that's the worry!
I am going to practice tomorrow before I buy the helmet.
(I can get on the scooter and this bike is lower, so I should be OK, although the technique is different)Also we had a big black BMW bike before we went to Spain and I could get on that.)

Balmaiden, glad you enjoyed the Pink Granite Coast. You're right, it's very similar to Cornwall. Did you notice that they're changing all the road signs etc to dual-language - French and the ancient Breton, which is similar to Cornish, and the names are similar, starting with Tre- etc.
Well, we've just had a nice day out today, the quarterly Family Day at church. All-Age Worship followed by a Picnic in the Park. There are lots of mature trees in Priory Park at Southend and we were able to sit in the shade and enjoy the breeze. We threw balls about etc - well, some of us did - and then we listened to an hour's concert at the bandstand by a local youth band.
Tomorrow we're away to Ireland. Drive to Swansea, overnight ferry to Cork, then drive to Killarney. This is where we'll be staying: http://www.crystalspringsbb.com/
As I've lost 11 1/2 pounds between the same date last year and today, I intend to be a bit careful with those famous Irish breakfasts! I haven't worked so hard just to blow it all on a 10-day holiday.
About SKI-ing, we usually book a first-class cabin on an overnight ferry. No longer cheap student travel or cattle class - we don't travel unless we can travel in comfort. The first-class cabins have a window. My claustrophobia kicks in if I can't see out. Will be leaving tomorrow morning, leisurely drive, nearly all motorway, but we usually get off the motorway and find a nice country pub or something to have lunch.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

We have joined a new church here in the UK. Our old one that we attended for over twenty years got a new Pastor and didn't feel like home any more (nothing wrong with it, or the new Pastor, just didn't feel right) and last year whilst in the UK we attended the local C of E, but this was really only a stopgap.
Anyway we have been attending the church that our friend has also recently joined and it felt like home straight away. It's what we are used to, free worship and quite informal; what some people might call happy-clappy. It is called Lifespring. It is also working with Christians Against Poverty (CAP), one of the free Debt Counselling charities recommended on this site.

Anyway, what I was going to see was today our church have also had a picnic in the park! Might as well make the most of the beautiful weather. We all took a little extra food in case any visitors wanted to come who hadn't got any. A good time was had by all.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Well our second camping trip was just as succesful. We enjoyed two beautiful coastal walks, saw plenty of seals and seabirds, sat in a little rocky cove all on our own with just the sound of the sea for company.
Margaretclare, I most certainly did notice the Breton roadsigns. We went to France with our friends, he is Cornish his wife is not. likewise I am Cornish and my husband is not. Both myself and our male friend felt a very deep affinity with Brittany. Almost as if we " belonged there ". We also looked the part, both being a little on the short side, as are the Bretons. Infact the locals always addressed me in french assuming I was French whereas my willowy blonde friend was always spoken to in English.
Have a lovely time in Ireland, another beautiful country.Away with the fairies.... Back soon0 -
Yay! My free bus pass has come! I can travel free by bus, metro (tram) or rail anywhere within West Midlands county and by bus all over England! Off to enjoy it now.....(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Back from our annual holiday - in Devon and Cornwall. All went well but unfortunately DH won't consider going away again overnight, not even for nephew's wedding next weekend, so we have to go there and back in a day. Not sure why, just that he likes his home comforts.0

Just got back from Ireland. We had a wonderful time. Tell you all about it another day - bit busy at the moment, only landed at Swansea early this morning and drove back.
I was a bit amused - the Irish have been told 'don't save your money, put it into the economy!' Their economy is suffering, the tourist industry, especially with the unfavourable exchange rate. It cost us a lot more than the trip to Germany 2 years ago because of the exchange rate.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

Love Ireland, MC, but it has been expensive for a while.
Budapest was wonderful; the hotel was a luxurious 5 star, on 3 for 2, with Cresta.
The Gellert baths were all I'd hoped for - bliss, soaking in that 36 degree pool!Member #14 of SKI-ers club
