  • We always have a four-berth cabin when we go on the Pride of Bilbao. It's the same price as a two berth. Then we pay £15 extra for a sea view. On a 30-hour crossing it is well worthwhile!

Glad you had a good time.

  • Hi everybody - I'm back from my trip to France. Had a wonderful time and saw so much, and ate even more! How I love long lazy lunches in the sunshine with a glass of wine or two. It was lovely and warm in the Garonne and I miss it now England is going very Autumnal on us. I notice a few of you are ski-ing off to foreign climes at the moment - have fun.

    Oh dear - I've been Ski-ing again:o;):rolleyes:confused:

We've ordered a new caravan with a fixed bed for the end of the year.:j:rotfl::T

New back/front door (it's the same) and bathroom window fittd today.

Cyst off my forehead tomorrow, then once stitches out off to warmer climbs.

    MW - France sounded marvellous.

We have actually SKI-ed quite a lot since we've been in the UK.

    Satnav (£260)
    A3 Printer (£199)
    Dishwasher for UK house (£99)
New UPVC door for conservatory/workshop in UK house plus associated items (£150)
Furniture from IKEA for Spanish house (chest of drawers and coffee table) (about £70)

The dishwasher was an end of line /Manager's Special at Currys. Well pleased.
The door was from a small conservatory place at the bottom of our street. It was surplus to requirements on someone else's job (so brand new) and was exactly what we wanted for a 1/4 of the usual price. (the door itself was £100).

Just because we are SKI-ing doesn't mean we shouldn't try and grab a bargain!

  • Well......I have applied for a job!

As you know I have been in the UK for nearly four months already and will be staying a while longer, and I always said if a decent temporary job came along I would apply for it.

On the website for our neighbouring council is an advert for a temporary job in their Planning Department. It could have been made for me. It is an admin role, so no stress, and I have eight years experience in Planning (in general admin and higher), a qualification in it, and have worked in three separate Planning roles so can be flexible.

I have rung my former line manager and former colleague and they are both happy to give me a reference, and have also informed me that the guy who was in charge of the Planning Department I worked in when I left, is now in charge at this neighbouring Council, so he will know me.

So... I am a bit apprehensive, but will be surprised if I do not get an interview.

Closing date is end of September, so not expecting to hear anything yetawhile. Wish me luck!

    More money to SKI with!

Great news, fingers crossed for you.
.................:)....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)
  • Next lot of money to spend - we're having the front drive done next week, cost £1200. I nearly turned my ankle when getting out of the car in the dark Friday evening when we got back, was cursing the uneven surface (concrete was laid on to earth years ago, has cracked and sunk).

OTOH I am still saving - my S&S ISA has done really well since the start of this financial year. And we can put more in from October under the new ISA rules. How daft is that? I find I've returned to the values of my grandparents who, although poor as the proverbial church mice, believed in saving and in insurance.
