  • It looks as though the pound and the euro will hit parity in a month

I ordered a stack of euros a couple of months ago for delivery in october and december and I got about 1.17 euro/pound.

Its going to be a lot more expensive to be a ski-er if it means holidays in euro counries. Oh well its back to spending on things to make life more comfy instead

Are you all still skiing or skating all over the place. I am getting lonely on here with no one to talk to.

I'm back. Our next massive spend may well have to be a house, long story but despite swearing I would never move again we may have to. And I think the boys will be coming with us!

I've still got either swine flu, bronchitis or a very bad cold, take your pick. Have finished the Tamiflu, am still coughing, sitting up because breathing is easier in the upright position, nose and eyes now streaming. DH gone shopping.

On Tuesday he went to look at flats in the retirement complex where I've been going for fitness sitting on chairs. We went to the Macmillan coffee morning they held on the previous Friday, the manager - who is a lovely bouncy extrovert woman - told us there were some for sale and she'd have the keys on Tuesday. I couldn't go, so he went. It really is a lovely place with many advantages, but...we're not quite ready for it yet. Large lounge, tichy little kitchen - room for one person only, he said, and no room for a table - bathroom but no shower - you have to get one installed if you want one - and bedroom, well, the one-bed apartment has a bedroom big enough for our king-sized bed, but not the 2-bed one because the total floor space is the same, 1 or 2 bed. So, not a lot of floor space altogether. The prices go from £90 to £110K, then there's the maintenance charges.

DH's reaction was 'if I was on my own, which God forbid...' he's always said he couldn't stay here if I died before him, and I feel the same. But we're not ready for it yet. This is only a 2-bed bungalow but we have more space than that, a kitchen/diner, both bedrooms the same size and the other bedroom is where we both have our desks and computers. There'd be no room for any of that, we'd have to eat meals in the lounge!

Still, we like to see these places because if you don't see them how can you make any sort of choice? We'll stay where we are as long as possible.

After the excitement of last weekend - Conference - our next 'away' is in November, going to a weekend organised by Diabetes UK at Blackpool, Friday afternoon - Sunday lunchtime.

  • Sounds good Margaret, although I understand you not being ready for that yet.

I agree with you that it is good to be at least thinking of the next stage and what might be the next move.

Hi, MW, back from DS's in Florida over a week now, but still jet lagged.
We've also been busy with U3A things and I'm having trouble with my blinking computer. How did we manage without them, eh? I am dreading being without it while it is repaired.

What have you been up to?

Words, words, they're all we have to go by!.

(Pity they are mangled by this autocorrect!)
  • This is a very belated reply to your news. My computer's wi-fi connection bombed on Oct 3rd and its taken till this pm to get a BT man to fix it. Hey-Ho I am back in business. Have missed you all. Got a serious dentist appointment tomorrow for some implants in my lower jaw, not looking forward to it one bit. Will report tomorrow.

Applied for my State Pension today and will receive my first payment on 1 February 2010.
£5334.68 a year extra to SKI with!

It also means that if the lodger leaves the UK house in January as he has said he might, then finacially we don't need to replace him. Deep joy!
