Well, I would risk it. A colleague is there for a week as we speak ...

I MIGHT pack some anti-bac wipes, but probably not.

  • Well we were going to SKI in Marbella today as my husband had to go there for a medical, it is a four hour drive and we were going to do some beach time and have a hotel for the night and come back tomorrow. Never been to Marbella before. Never been west of Malaga airport in fact.

.....Won't go again, it was AWFUL! (Well actually the place we had to go to was 10km east of Marbella, but all down the coast from Torremolinos is the same)......this is the touristy part of the Costa del Sol where people flock for their holidays and millionaire celebs buy holiday homes. I don't understand it. I genuinely would rather be in Wolverhampton. At least it is a working city and not just full of bling. AND in Marbella all the shops, bars, clubs etc are English, where are the Spaniards??.

So we didn't stay, we came straight home.

A temple to materialism, it was awful! I was SO glad to get back to my little white house in our little village full of real people who don't care whether you have a porsche or wear designer clothes.

(and now you're all going to tell me you all go there for your holidays every year and think it's marvellous!:rotfl::rotfl: )

Healty to drive the new car donny-gal.
We did a little bit of ski-ing this week. We were over at our house in France and decided to treat ourselves to a new mattress. The old one was 6 years old and in perfect condition but not quite as comfy as we would like so we just thought we'd go for it. Our french neighbour very happily took the old one off our hands which saved a trip to the dechetterie so a result all round.

Booked to Ska-te off to the Highlands (Loch Fyne) next Tuesday - but now I am in a bit of a dilema with this Swine Flu circulating up there. Do you think I am being over cautious and silly. Its currently 100 miles away - give or take - in Stirling.

I don't think you need to worry. There have also been confirmed cases in Gloucestershire and London close to you anyway.

We're just back from our week in the New Forest. After last weekend's conference at the Hilton, Portsmouth, we stayed here: http://www.kingfisher-retreat.co.uk/ and we stayed in the gardener's lodge. It's an absolutely gorgeous place. They have a huge pond with ducks, they have hens, fresh free-range eggs for breakfast!

Here's one of the places we went to: http://www.bucklershard.co.uk/ipus/bucklershard/index For anyone with a sense of history/anyone who has seen the 'Hornblower' TV episodes and/or read Patrick O'Brian's novels, this really brings it home.

Each day we found a different place to eat, although some will always be our favourites: http://www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/29/2931/Fighting_Cocks/Godshill

We were not greatly impressed by Salisbury Cathedral - DH couldn't 'feel' an atmosphere there. It was very different when we went to Wimborne Minster and the following day to Winchester Cathedral. Both places are full of the sense of centuries of prayer. DH gets a shiver down the spine and he always lights a candle and says a prayer in thanks that he's still here!

I love Salisbury Cathedral Margaret, but the one with the atmosphere has just got to be Canterbury. History and Holiness coming out of the walls!

Thanks jem16 - the papers today are saying that the virus seems very weak in this country. I was only worried because I am diabetic and any infection we get is very difficult to cure in the short term.

Looking foward to visiting Glasgow on Wednesday and Thursday before going up to Loch Fyne. I havn't been there since I was a child with my parents, my father had/has relatives in Glagow and we visited once. I intend to pop into your records office and see if I can trace any members of the MALTBY family. I am very busy tracing my family for the family tree. My Grandmother lived there with her family in the late 1800's. I have yet to find out how she met and married my Grandfather who lived in Yorkshire.

Hope the Glasgow weather improves in the coming days, its lovely here but shows it raining in Glasgow. Do you fancy meeting up for a coffee?

The papers are doing their usual "blow out of all proportion" reporting. However it doesn't appear to be too bad but I can see why you might be anxious.

    Good luck with that.

Must be a different Glasgow to the one I'm in. ;) The weather is lovely here too - sunny both yesterday and today with temperature at 19 degrees at the moment.

Unfortunately the weather is forecast to get worse tomorrow - if they get it right that is.

I'm at work all day unfortunately. Would need to be an evening coffee.

If you think the papers are blowing it out of all proportion, you should read the comments on the story on our local newspaper's website! Bristol Evening Post. I'm sure a search for swine flu and Downend will find it. Very little sympathy for the poor child who has it, but anyone would think the parents set out to murder us all in our beds by letting her go to Mexico (before the outbreak was publicised!) in the first place!

I need to do some SKI-ing around Bridgewater in August - some friends we rarely see are 'losing' their children for a week and have suggested a(nother) holiday together - our last was when the boys were VERY young! We wouldn't normally go away at that time of year - any suggestions for cottage companies welcome! Or I'll head off to the Travel board ...
