In case any of you are using the Nationwide Flex account for withdrawals while abroad, I got a letter from them today saying that as from 1st June they will be raising a 1% charge for this service.

Please ignore my last post above. I thought the nationwide were raising a charge for all non sterling transactions but it seems it only relates to outside the EU.

  • Hi Francophile, i was going to post earlier saying it was just countries outside the EU, but thanks for clarifying!

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton

I think that other countries outside of the EU are exempt too e.g. Turkey does not have the charge.

morning fellow skiers and skaters. What a turnaround in my psyche and its taken long enough I might add :T. I think the turning point came on reading various bits from you wise ones and on being asked again to travel 250 miles (round trip) plus bridge tolls to simply babysit for one night.

I am now thinking for us and only us. Holiday soon in the Italian lakes and Austria. Posh holiday in Poland in sept, long holiday in Malta after christmas and I`m thinking of booking another longie in early spring. No more scrimping for us. I have spent loads this past two weeks, on cds and some basic nice clothes, that I could have made but didn`t. I have geared us both up with items that will make travel easier ie a new suitcase, mesh bags and safety things. A new mp3 player for me etc etc

    I like it

Very variable, I find March/April are often the wettest months. However, this year has been good.

Welcome back to the fold Kittie, good for you on the spending front. We went to Majorca in May last year it was mostly cold and wet! I think if you went in March it would be good to be prepared for anything.

Not sure about our SKIing this year. We had our lovely holiday in Mexico in February and will be going to Wales in September. Went to the glorious Isles Of Scilly for a day trip this week, Oh how I love those Islands.

kittie, while I do agree that you don't want to be just dropping everything and driving 250 miles just to babysit for one night, have you thought of combining visits to your grandchildren with nice stays away in the UK? Obviously at YOUR convenience ...

We have had some great times staying fairly close to where we live. the main thing is that someone else is thinking about what we should eat, and washing up afterwards!
