Well done. Wish you well to drive it. Not long now until we go across the Channel for a 4-night stay in the Novotel near Amiens. What we originally planned for the week before Easter but DH's spinal problems put that on hold. We'd paid for it, and the ferry crossing, couldn't get the money back but we were able to change the dates.
Have a great time MC!(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Enjoy your break, MC!
I am dying for a holiday - I know i sound like a spoiled princess, having been in Florida for 8 weeks - but that was far from a holiday!
I go back to outpatients at end of September and shall ask if I can travel! We love tours, but I know it will have to be lazy week by a pool.Member #14 of SKI-ers club

The main thing was, his GD phoned her Grandad and he was absolutely delighted. He felt very strongly that this was how important news should be communicated in a family and he was hurt on my behalf, which was why he jumped in with both feet.
I wasn't saying it was your responsibility, but I suppose if your husband thought your GD should have told you her news then he also think his GD should tell his ex? Seems reasonable to have the same rule for all of them although he would obviously be more concerned with your feelings than for his ex.Sell £1500

From what I can gather, the choice of whether or not to be involved in her family has been entirely down to the ex. She has 2 GDs and 2 GSs with whom she has no contact whatsoever. Actually both ex 1 and ex 2 are cut from the same cloth. Ex 2 has 5 GC from one daughter and all are achievers. We were rooting for them at the time of the Olympics although one didn't make it to the team, another may well make it to 2014 Rio. We're in touch with their mum, but her mum - ex 2 - is not in touch at all.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

It is so sad when families split up. I don't belong to a Waltons type family but I still miss my parents and can't imagine how awful it would be if I didn't see my kids. Don't even want to think about being separated from my grandchildren, I couldn't face that. I laugh when people tell me I do too much for them, how can you do too much for your family? Beats me.

Ooops, sorry, Rio in 4 years' time, 2016.
I agree with you. Being told by my only surviving daughter 'stay out of my life' was not something I ever expected to hear, but as I explained a couple of pages back, there is absolutely nothing I can do about it. I've bent over backwards and it has got me nowhere, which is why it is so heart-warming to have a very different reaction from my in-law family.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

I too would be heartbroken if my son cut me off. We've always brought him up with the attitude that whatever someone has done to upset you, it can always be sorted out. Glad to say he has taken that on board.
I hope one day your daughter sees fit to ask for you to be back into her life Margaret.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Very, very good news from my younger step-GD this morning - the best. 6 A* and 4 A passes in all the academic subjects. DH hadn't even remembered that it's results day, but he was so delighted that she remembered him and picked up the phone. She talked to us both. I said 'Why did you do Spanish instead of French?' 'Oh, I did French but I only got an A in that, I got an A* in Spanish'. She didn't even think the A grades were worth mentioning until I asked her!!
OK, those 2 girls have had the best possible opportunities which maybe other poorer kids couldn't have, but they have certainly both made the very best of those opportunities.
We're going to have another weekend in Yorkshire early October, a lovely B&B in Hawes. It's a long way, petrol costs etc, but as DH said yesterday 'What are we saving it for?' The philosophy of SKI-ing in a nutshell.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

...and following on from the philosophy of SKI-ing, we've just come back from a quick dash to the Midlands to give those two clever girls a big hug in person. We couldn't do otherwise! We stayed the night and had some very pleasant time with them all. We weren't worried about spending money on petrol and we had a nice lunch in a pub/restaurant on the way back, cost immaterial.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.
