Thank you for the kind words. I am just getting on with my own life now. I shudder to think what it would be like if I was one of those women - there are many - who live vicariously through their children and grandchildren and don't seem to have anything left for themselves. I'd be destroyed, entirely.

We've just got back from our appointment with the solicitor, sorted everything out - finally, I hope! We were offered various alternatives. One was to split both our estates now and leave to whoever we individually chose. That would have involved changing title from joint tenants to tenants-in-common, meaning that if I die first DH would have a life interest and half the value of the property. I am adamantly opposed to that because I don't want any risk at all of him being homeless. Given some of the nasty things that were said recently along the lines of 'he's not our family', I wouldn't want to risk that.

I'm happy with the way we've sorted it all out.

Gosh, these wills sound complicated. TBH, I can't really remember the connotations of what we did with ours.

If we buy a condo in the US, we'll have to change the will anyway.

We are going to try to rent a place, in or near our Spanish village, in late winter/early Spring, for a month. Bit of winter sun, hopefully. In any event it should be better than the UK at that time of the year.

It will be nice to see people again. We have costed it up and it is affordable, providing we can get reasonably priced accomodation, which we should be able to do as we know the area. We'll save our dog-sitting money :)

We may even ask the people who bought our house if we can rent that!:rotfl::rotfl:

No, not complicated at all. Simpler than was previously the case.

Just had some fabulous news from my eldest step-granddaughter. Wonderful A-level results. We couldn't be prouder of her if we tried and we are rooting for her all the way. But wasn't it wonderful of her to just pick up the phone and think of us? That was all it took. Just a simple phone call.

  • It was great, MC, well done to her, in more ways than one.
