I'm currently SKI-ing in a caravan, which is very MSE and I have to say I'd prefer a B&B or a nice hotel ... The loo is TINY!
But DH is happy ... and I've dragged him off-site yesterday and today to keep me sane!
We've brought DS2 to a big camping event a couple of hours from home, and this site is very close. In the past I've brought DS2 and stayed with my mother on either the outward or return journey. This time DH was able to take Friday off, so we've made a weekend of it.Signature removed for peace of mind0 -

Hope it hasn't been too wet, my DD is camping and got soaked on Saturday. I think my one concession to getting older is I don't want to go camping anymore. I think I need a bit of luxury but some caravans are quite luxurious, tents less so. I have had the weekend at home but will be away next weekend. I think we will be in a Premier Inn so not luxury but will be fine. I will be away the next weekend as well so really gadding about at the moment. Has been a hectic summer with DD graduating, she got a first so that was a lovely trip, and a family wedding as well as some trips we just wanted to do. I think we are having a trip to London in October, if we can we will got at half term and take the grandchildren.Sell £1500

We had a fantastic weekend for DS2's graduation, he got a 1st too, and we were staying in a Hilton thanks to Tesco points, with a pool and sauna!
All 3 boys were camping this weekend: DS1 at the Towersey Festival, haven't heard from him yet to know how wet he got. DS2 near us, at an Airsoft event, which is why we went, so that he could have a lift. And DS3 at Reading. He's back, but not very communicative, as ever. We are alternating showers and laundry as both boys are rather smelly!Signature removed for peace of mind0 -
Not too wet, fortunately, like you I don't want to go camping any more! The caravan was a compromise: DH could lie around in any sun we had with not a lot on, and when it rained we went out.

The Hilton sounds nice, we are thinking of one for our trip in two weeks,we only managed a Travellodge for the graduation but we enjoyed it. My daughter was at Reading as well and lots of washing to do.Sell £1500

Strange isn't it we love our luxury touring caravan, and hate hotels with a passion. We like our own space, a home away from home, which why we prefer our house in Spain rather than jetting off all over the world in hotels.
Wouldn't do for us all to be the same. DG:D

Why is it I have less time now I am retired then when I worked?0 -
No, it wouldn't do for us all to be the same. For us, a touring caravan wouldn't work - takes up too much space while you're not using it, cost of insuring etc. What we really like are the small homely B&Bs and we've stayed in quite a few over recent years, but we like to know what we're getting and Travelodges etc can be OK - you do know what to expect. On Monday we're going for a 4-night stay at the Novotel Est, Amiens. This was where we were meant to go earlier in the year and we'd paid for it and paid for the ferry, couldn't get the money back so we moved the date as far back in the summer as we could to allow for DH recovering from spinal surgery. We did go to France earlier and stayed at a very nice place called the Moulin des Moines: http://www.bedandbreakfast.com/france-croissy-sur-celle-moulinauxmoines-info.html Weather was very cold just then but it was unusual to say the least! Here's where we'll be next week: http://www.accorhotels.com/gb/hotel-0396-novotel-amiens-est/index.shtml We've stayed in the Novotel, Lille, and that was very nice. Over the past few years I've managed to get DH to speak a bit of French, and that, IMHO, is an advantage of not having our own space while abroad. We like eating the local food and talking to local people.Ær ic wisdom funde, ær wearð ic eald.

We had a little caravan for a while. I loved it, hubby hated it. And as we have no drive, it was a pain in the neck to store. So we got rid and went back to tent camping for a while. Now we would prefer to rent a place - a cottage, or apartment.
While we had the Spanish house, we could do home exchange holidays, these were good as we got to live in places we could never have afforded otherwise. This is our favourite type of holiday, but can't do them now as no-one wants to exchange to inner-city Wolverhampton.:rotfl::rotfl:(AKA HRH_MUngo)

We had a lovely 3days in West Wales over the bank holiday, rained all the way down and all the way back but inbetween was sunny and warm.. stayed at a b and b I've stayed at before up a single track road with a wonderful view of the sea from the balcony. My sister was 70 last week so we met up and had dinner with her and her children , spent time on the beach and walking in the surf.. I love it there such a beautiful coastline.. My sister has lived there for a few years having coming down from North Wales,... lovely for a holiday but I don't think I'd want to live there..lol. The traffic in the tiny village was diabolical I felt sorry for the locals they must hate their town being taken over by holiday makers.. still we spent some money and had a great time... and breakfast was to die for , with fresh laid eggs , locally sourced bacon and sausages and home made bread , and preserves... OH even went out and helped with the horses... such a lovely b and b and they welcome dogs too.. not that we have one.#6 of the SKI-ers Club :j

We had a caravan for a few years, after many years of tenting, but only in France.
The caravan just sat, as i could never go off for weekends. Now every penny goes towards visiting family in US.
Booked for November; will be there for Thanksgiving. Unfortunately DIL's parents got in first for baby's 1st birthday.Member #14 of SKI-ers club
