I have just cancelled my mobile with Orange and the contract was terminated this week. This had free broadband on the bill and I am billed separately and have a separate DD for £5 a month for the Livebox and voip calls. My plan is not to draw attention to the fact that I no longer have a mobile and see what happens, hopefully I will just keep paying the £5 a month.

I just cancelled my mobile contract today (30 days notice) and I've been getting broadband for £5 a month, with a Livebox and VOIP phonecalls included.

Thought I'd better call them to see how much the broadband will go up to after the mobile contract finishes. Guess what, they said if I agree to another 18 month contract (broadband only, no mobile) I will get 6 months free then 12 months at £5. Snapped their hands off, £60 for 18 months broadband.

I know some people really slate Orange but to be fair I haven't had one day without service in the last 18 months. As I tend to fix all my own technical problems, the poor customer service has never been as issue.

I'm another who's been paying over the odds at £17.99pm for 2Mb/2Gb for far too long, never changed it because I didn't want to start a new 12 month contract with them/anyone with the possibility of moving at any time, options here are limited to bt/orange/talktalk. Now my dad uses the internet most days as well, he'll continue using it once I've moved so planned on moving to o2 having heard good things from friends/relatives.
When I called up for the mac code, I was offered the £12.99pm / 3 months free deal but wasn't really paying attention to the details as I was set on moving to o2. Silly me hadn't thought to check the availability of o2 in my area! So no chance of the £7.50pm with them, so I was looking at Tiscali/Plusnet/Madasafish for their £14.99pm deals with some Quidco cashback to save a bit.
Saw this thread and thought it had to be worth another call to Orange to check what they were offering me, first girl in India called it up on screen and repeated what I'd been offered the week before. I asked to speak to the retention department again to check details and the guy offered me the same again. Told him what I'd seen people offered online and the fact I'd been with them on b'band/dial-up for 9 years, and he readily offered me the same deal of £9.99pm, 6 months free, 8Mb/10Gb dl and free Livebox.
Really happy with that, especially as I'm normally useless at haggling. Like tingtong, I've never had any major issues with Orange/Wanadoo/FS in all my time with them so I'm more than happy with £5pm for the next year.

I contacted Orange yesterday for a relative who was coming to the end of their last 12 month contract. A simple enquiry of customer services about the procedure for moving to another ISP, and when prompted for the reason that O2 at £7.50 were cheaper (answering yes to having an O2 mobile - which may or may not be true), resulted in a swift transfer to retentions.

They instantly offered 6 months free and then £9.99 per month on a 12 month contract, so £5 per month. An increase in speed to the maximum the exchange supported, and a free wireless router modem (to be returned if the contract is ever ended).

I checked my account to make sure everything had gone through and my account now says my package is:
RETENTION Broadband Plus £9.99 - Up to 8 Meg speed, 2GB usage allowance, includes Wireless and Talk

So it only says 2Gb usage, not the 10Gb I was promised on the phone. I was just wondering what other people's accounts say, whether it's a typo or if I need to ring them to clarify. Lower down, it says my speed is 6Mb, despite Samknows saying the exchange is capable of 8Mb or more, and my house is only 200m from it. Various speed tests have shown I'm averaging 3Mb, and only 3.5Mb at best (I'm aware of the 10day period but the connection speeds have been consistent after the first couple of days).

I still have not contacted Orange and they have just taken my normal £5 DD for my broadband, so I'm happy with that for broadband and free livebox calls, cos if I phone them, they will want to tie me into another contract.
  • Just called Orange to get the mac code (wanted to change to O2)

i have also been with them since the freeserve days (dial-up, ahhhhhh the memories)

spoke to someone that actually sounded English, well, Brummy anyway (just kidding dont hate :P), and she offered me 6 months free then £10 a month after that, plus free livebox, im paying £18 a month at the moment, using the ADSL speedtouch modem i was all set to say oooooh yes please mainly cos of the router and price obviously, im getting a laptop too so the router would be useful. but i was reading this thread at the same time and noticed some connection problems mentioned, so, i said i need to think about it and hses added to my 'notes' that i was offered the deal and am thinking about it.

so, is this going to give me a headache if i take up this new package offer, setting it up and everything, im not a techy at all, or should i just go ahead with it? orrrrrr get the mac code as originally planned and go O2?

If you search the internet for any ISP then you will find people reporting problems. Nobody ever posts 'I have never had a problem', only 'insert the name of their current ISP is utterly useless and I want them to burn in hell'.

altarf, you are right, people forget top praise good service, yet we can still draw conclusions from certain companies having higher levers of customer dissatisfaction.

neverwalkalone, it really depends on your budget, and what you want from the internet. if you want fast (adsl2+) internet with an excellent reputation for reliability and customer service, then O2 are a safe bet, or you can keep orange. If I had the choice (I wouldn't use orange unless my only alternative was CPW, even then i'd be reticent, and O2 are not available to me) then I'd happily go with O2

Couldn't get my phone (Nokia N95) to connect via Wifi to my Orange Livebox. Same problem with friends Liveboxes. Other ISPs connected OK.angry-smiley-030.gif
Phoned Orange for MAC code to change ISPs.
Orange sent me a new non-Livebox router within 3 days - which works great with my phone. They also cut my monthly bill from £17.99 to £9.99, increased my cap limit from 2 to 10 Gig and increased my download speed from 2 to 8 Meg (if I can reach this speed!)
    What a result!!!sport-smiley-001.gif

It probably helped that I've been with this outfit ever since Freeserve started up with picking up a cd from Comet to get a connection on Dial-Up at 1p/Min.biggrin.gif
