Natwest - I got an account
Comments
-
The problem I have (and why I moved away from Natwest) is we held a joint step account for over 2 years, had about £2300 going in a month, left approximately £800 in the account and never went overdrawn.
We were recommended in branch for an upgrade to Current Plus but the girl at the customer service desk said we'd qualify for Advantage Gold with the amount we paid in every month, great we thought.
Accepted in principle, great but then a letter saying it had been declined totally.
The branch could not work out why, my CR is OK, defaults from when I was 18 have now dropped off (clear CR with all agencies, only my Cap One & orange bills showing) but I have been declined individually and jointly.
I wrote to customer services, enclosing a copy of my CR from all 3 agencies and they said there was nothing they could do, it was down to credit scoring.
Even the branch said we had run the account exceptionally well, so it was a mystery to them as well.
We moved to Citibank to get £50 cashback from Quidco and we've just had an upgrade to CitiGold (free for 3 months but will cancel after that) and we moved all of our savings out too.
Just suprised as we had such a good record with them that we couldn't upgrade at all and no flexibility at all.£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450 -
Update - Letter arrived today with some guides about the account and a form to sign and return.
Signed the form and sent back to Natwest this morning.0 -

Well.....
I went into my branch and asked if I could upgrade my old but still in use, Step account, which is a joint account or my step individual account
I was advised no but individually I could apply for a Current Plus account, that is apparently, what their system was recommending based on my previous conduct of the account. I have my main account joint account with Citibank but no sole account in use and my new job gives me a company car allowance, which I want to be paid into a different account.
Out of curiousity, I applied and successful and received a cheque book, paying in book and....a Solo card, despite previous conduct, depsite my credit record being good, Natwest still won't give me a Maestro card.
Is there any way of appealling this, I went into the branch and the advisor asked whether she could see sight of my current debit and credit cards, which I showed her.
We have had money going through and have left money in the joint step account (Emergency funds) so even though it is not our main account, transactions have been conducted through the account.
It's so frustrating, if they'd give me a Maestro card, we'd change back to Natwest as they are so close to our house and fed up of posting cheques to Citibank and it taking 5 days for cash to hit with Citi too.
How has everyone else gotr on?£2 Coin Savers Club (Christmas)- £86£1 Jar (Christmas)- £29Christmas Vouchers Saved: £1450 -

Unfortunately our systems are giving out alot of solo cards for some reason, although ive found when opening a new account, if we tick the box to say you hold a maestro card with your current bank, 9 times out of 10 it lets you have one with us.
It is also down to credit scoring too.I work in a NatWest branch, any information I provide should be taken as general. See you local branch for advice, but any questions feel free to ask me.0 -
Hi jonno
I believe now, that when you apply for a Natwest account they ask if you have been bankrupt? Say you had and it was many years ago, not on credit files etc. Could you still open an account?

Yes, one questions our systems ask is if you have been made bankrupt. If you answer yes, providing you can give us a copy of your discharge letter we will then open you a step account which comes with a solo card.I work in a NatWest branch, any information I provide should be taken as general. Thanks Jonnno, if say you had been discharged 10 years ago, could you open a general current account? Or upgrade later if the account was ran well.
I guess my line of thought is; if you answer Yes to bankruptcy, is it the same as if it happened a year ago or 25 years ago!

I also got accepted for a advantage gold account on friday even though my credit rating is poor .. the manager said that i should run it for 3 months and if i find that the benefit are of no advantage to contact her and she will down grade my account. She also said that the account will improve my credit rating ?? is that right ? or was that just a selling tactic ??Previous Debt 2007 !

Selling tactic. Having an Advantage Gold account won't show to lenders (they can't see lender names, as a general rule), and unless NatWest started reporting your account conduct where they hadn't before there'd be no change to your file.0
