Natwest - I got an account

  • I got an accpeted in principle letter a few months back for advantage gold, I'd previously had the step account but I was then declined.

My credit history is OK but my husband's isn't, I have 2 orange contracts a credit card with £2k limit, Citibank account with Overdraft.

I applied in branch too, that was August last year, wonder if it would be worth reapplying as Citibank keep stealing 2p's from me.

SHe was like ok but the basic account doesnt get monitered and is difficult to upgrade becuase of this so i will just sew what account it reccomends your credit rating may not be that bad .

and they came up with advantage gold but i didnt want to pay (due to being off work with back etc) and she said well i would reccomend our current account plus .

the credit check came back ok for me to get a decent account but due to me being unemployed would only offer me a cashcard rather than a service card. But i checked my annual credit report and it was average not checked the others but i have to pay for these as due to my name being similar to my dads i need to send id in and then pay to make sure that my details are recorded only

Thanks dexters mum - what did you get in the post? Do Natwest just send you a contract to sign and what ID do they ask for?

I'm confused - You applied an Advantage Gold a/c while you had the Step? I take it you closed the Step and then re applied for the Adv Gold a/c, and were accepted?

Which card did they send you?

    I'm hoping for a Maestro!

Robpw2 - thanks for the info too!

Just to jump in again - Natwest checked my Equifax file (about four times!) - that must have been for the Advantage account. They also checked my Experian file , only once (maybe credit card - and declined).
They must have seen my overdraft with my current bank - hence them matching?
Lets see if any of us are succesfull...........

They should of told you which card your getting, you might get solo to start with, im finding this alot when im opening accounts, if you do, wait 3 months then should be able to get a service card 100.
I work in a NatWest branch, any information I provide should be taken as general. See you local branch for advice, but any questions feel free to ask me.

Would I be correct in thinking because I was offered a overdraft I would get the full account and not solo card?

    Hi Jonno,

    Thanks for the info.

As you work for Natwest, you obviously know quite a bit about their procedures!

As londonuk2008 just said, I'm presuming that people are only sent the full 'Service Card' if they are offered the overdraft when applying online?!

As I said earlier, they told me I'd been 'accepted in principle', however, when I checked my Equifax file, it was obvious that Natwest had already done credit and ID checks.

They didn't offer me an o/d, or a c/c and they def didn't tell me which card I'd be getting with the Adv Gold a/c..I'm presuming I'll be getting a cr*ppy Solo!

However, is it worth running the account for a few months, putting my salary in, and being responsible with D/D's etc, then hoping for an upgrade of the card as you say Jonno? ...Or, am I just getting pretty much the same account as a 'Step' but with a few bells and whistles?!

    Many Thanks

    Leigh.

    Hi

Its better than a step account thats for sure!!

If they have offered you an overdraft its highly likely you will get a service card, the type of card were told is down to credit scoring. So I think you should get one, Im amazed they have not told you yet.

If it is a solo card dont worry, it takes 3 months for our system to build an assessment on you and your account conduct. Providing your having a good amount paid in monthly, and leave surplus in at the end of the month, then you should be able to get the service card.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for the info Jonnno.

Trouble is, they didn't offer me an overdraft when I applied online, so it looks like I might get the Solo card! :o

I'll just make sure I run the account well, and hope they upgrade it in 3 months time!

    Thanks for your help,

    Leigh
