How does the Panasonic work so differently, say to the Tesco one?
I have the Tesco one and I just cant get a decent loaf out of it and now considerting the Panasonic. Obviously quite a big price difference so what does the Panny do that the Tesco one doesn't do?
Do you follow the ingredient measurements in the Panasonic manual to get your decent loaves? I've tried several attempts at making the recipies from the Tesco manual and it's not working out
I've only ever had the Panasonic (bought after reading the threads here!) so I can't directly compare it, but my sister had a cheap BM, and it seems the Panny has better kneading and a longer rise cycle. The opinion of the members here two years ago was that cheap breadmakers weren't worth the money because they didn't produce really good quality bread.
Opinion seemed about equally divided between the Panasonic and the Morphy Richards fastbake, except that the Panny handled wholemeal better. I eat wholemeal bread, and a lot of machines have trouble making that. White bread dough is much more forgiving, apparently.
I paid £85 on amazon, and I reckon that the machine has already paid for itself: I did the costing a while ago, but I worked out I was saving about £1 per loaf (costs were about 30-odd pence, not including electricity and a large wholemeal loaf cost about £1.45)
Of course that doesn't include two other savings: prior to having a breadmaker I'd often pop into the shops for a loaf and emerge with a carrier-bag full of other shopping, and also I also had to buy bread in advance, so it often went stale and I'd end up having to toast it or throw it away.
With a BM, of course, I just make it as I need it. The ingredients stay fresh for a lot longer than the bread would. (Though I've found I have to be careful to store the flour in plastic bags or it absorbs moisture, which causes rising problems later because the dough ends up too wet.)0 -

Hi - surpirse surprise I just received it and it is a BL455 Blender. I have just come off the phone with Amazon and they said that the BM450 is no longer available and so they are going to refund me and I can purchase it when it comes back in stock, but only at the price listed at the time of purchase so I guess it will be back up to over £100 when it does come back in stock! What a con!Jane

That is unbelievable! Thanks for the update RS. I have e-mailed Amazon as this breadmaker/blender is still not yet dispatched. I have asked them to confirm that it is a breadmaker being sent, if not I want to cancel the order. I know I can cancel straight away but want to see what they say first.0

I received a response to my e-mail from Amazon.Dear Customer
Thank you for contacting Amazon.co.uk with your enquiry.
We try our best to keep the information in our catalogue as up to date as possible, and I am sorry that it was incorrect in this instance. Our catalogue has now been updated correctly.
After looking into our website I found that Kenwood BL450 is a Blender and not a Breadmaker. Also I note that the product image and product description says that this item is a blender.
You can verify this information with the URL given below:
http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001QTVX5U
We understand that this is not what you have expected, and that you may wish to cancel your order. If you do wish to cancel an item or an order, please visit the "Your Account" link at the top of any page of our website or using the link below, and then click "Cancel items or order".
First of all their link doesn't work, I get the message:
Looking for something?
We're sorry. The Web address you entered is not a functioning page on our site.
I have sent them a snotty letter as it appears they don't want to honour the order and they didn't even bother to notify me that a blender would be sent in its place. They were very quick to take down the web page for the breadmaker when it was advertised at £29.99 and it seems they realised their mistake but don't wish to honour it. I've asked for a refund as the money looks as if its going out of my account even though I haven't had my order! I've also cancelled the order. :mad:0 -
I just placed an order for the panny breadmaker :j . I hope I get it super quick, I can't wait to try it out and see how it goes. :j

Since I got mine I've made a loaf a day. We are eating it with home soup which is healthy and slimming (hmm) and I make only wholemeal and granary ones. Plus when the family visit I give them away a loaf with them LOL !0

Ours has also been in constant use , I've made bread, cakes and loads of hot cross buns, which the kids love. I was lost today when I had nothing left to make!!0

Evening all,
I currently have (had) a cheap Tesco breadmaker, which has served me will for 18 months but gave up the ghost after being dropped.
I'm looking to replace it with something slightly better, and currently have £70 account credit with CDiscount - so would like to order it from there to use the credit up.
I'm currently looking at either the Panasonic SD-254 or SD-255, but not sure which to go for. Is the dispenser facility worth the extra money?
The other alternative is the Morphy Richards Accents - which falls in the middle in terms of price, however does not seem as popular as the Panny models?
What do you think?
Cheers,0
