Which is the best home breadmaker?

I've been seriously considering a breadmaker for a while now but everyone I know who's had one says not to bother (talking 'real' people not internet people IYKWIM) which obviously puts me off given the cost. I have made a grand total of two loaves by hand and they were ok, not fab, no better tasting than the normal loaves I buy to be honest!
Anyway in a quest to make a decision I've read the whole of this thread and the 9 pages of reviews on the panasonic one on amazon and am getting mixed messages. Most people seem to think its fantastic but I have seem lots of comments about loose paddles which concerns me, really really can't justify spending this kind of money on a kitchen gadget that is going to break just as I get used to it! Also people are saying about holes in the loaf from the paddle and the bread not keeping well, is there anyway round that or does it just go hand in hand which homemade bread? I guess I just want to be sure that I'm going to be able to stop buying shop bread if I commit myself to a breadmaker lol!
I have been concerned about the negative reviews concerning the paddle on Amazon too. But there are just SO many positive and glowing reviews (the overwhelming majority actually) that I think maybe they've just been unlucky and got a bad batch? I don't know, bit confused but I think I will take the chance.0 -
*waves* If you do decide to take the plunge report back on how you get on won't you! I am swaying towards going for it but won't have the cash for a while so you'll likely beat me to it lol.
Also I've been thinking about the storage issue and came across this.....

I bought a Panasonic breadmaker last year after reading all the reviews on here from folk who use them too and am delighted with ours, and have never ever had a fault with it. Wonderful machine and so glad we bought it.Do a little kindness every day.;)0

When my beloved old breadmaker died last week after years of use, I thought I'd never get another one that made such good bread. With great trepidation I took the plunge and bought the Panasonic SD254 from Makro. Well I have had to eat my words.... as well as a crusty white loaf, a wonderful wholemeal and the yummiest spicy fruit loaf. Now where did I put that diet sheet....0
