Which US ATM's charge no fee?

I returned last week from a 17 day trip to San Francisco, Sonoma, Yosemite etc. and can confirm that Bank of America charged me $3 each time I withdrew money using my Nationwide Flexaccount card.
I used Washington Mutual in Sonoma and they did not charge anything.0 -
Is anyone able to update this? Does it appear to only be Washington Mutual ATMs that are free now?0

Hi guys, I don't have a Nationwide account but only HSBC and Abbey. Guessing the charges and tests you are doing won't apply to those ones. I'm wondering if you all have Nationwide Flex for a particular reason? Is it meant to be good when being used overseas?0

I can also confirm that withdrawal from Washington Mutual ATMs using Nationwide card will incur no charges.
Got $80 at one of WAMU machines in NYC yesterday. Check online today and find out that £40.38 was deducted from my account. So, an unbeatable rate of 1.9811! (think Thomas Global Exchange was doing 1.95 at that moment)
Nationwide Flexaccount is definitely the way to go for travel money!

Yes - no charges (by Nationwide) for overseas use. HSBC and Abbey make charges in the form of loading the exchange rate against you.0 -
Oh okay cool thx dzug1.. good to know. Gonna get one then

I used a Bank of America cash machine outside a branch in Orlando (I know it's not near California, but it might help others) & was not charged for the withdrawal.
This was on June 6th.Going down the Oteley Road to see the Shrewsbury aces! :T0 -
Hi, just to give an up to date situation-have just returned from New York and can confirm that the Washington Mutual bank DID NOT charge me a fee for withdrawing cash from their ATMs using my Nationwide Flexaccount debit card :T0

In many US ATMs the owner surcharges, from experience, I take the time to look at the information on the machine regarding fees. If the machine states it does not chage for non-US cards, when I make a withdrawal , I always use a Nationwide debit card and select the CREDIT CARD withdrawal option on the ATM. This normally avoids a fee. Wachovia bank does not surcharge when this is selected. TO BE SURE ALWAYS DRAW CASH WITH A NATIONWIDE DEBIT CARD OVER THE COUNTER FROM A BANK - YOU WILL NEED YOUR PASSPORT AS ID. THERE WILL NOT BE A SURCHARGE FOR THIS KIND OF WITHDRAWAL.0

Just found this thread after searching!
Been to Jupiter (central east Florida) in mid December.
On the Turnpike (toll road) we got out $100 (Suntrust on the statement) and were not charged
At the Publix supermarket I was charged $1 for $100 cash at the ATM, (says 'Honeybell Way' on the statement) but no charge for buying stuff at the checkout
I was then charged $3 for $200 cash at 'Bank of America'
All the above using a Nationwide card.
Are there any definitive rules about charges in the usa ???0
