Walmart charges $2 and you can only withdraw $400 not the usual max of $500.
Thats it i reckon. No more free ATM's in California at least.

    Bank Of America does charge.

PUBLIX supermarket definitely doesn't. So if you see one or pass one stop there and get your cash :)

    Hi,
Sorry for the delay in replying Moto, definitely no charge with HSBC and nationwide. Sally

Can you confirm how recently you tried this recently Sally?

I found this on the HSBC US website http://www.us.hsbc.com/1/2/3/personal/online-services/oao/oao_disc (Click on EFT Facility Charges) It's dated Nov 07

I think this is saying that HSBC charge their own customers $1.50 for a cash withdrawal. Does this mean it would be the same for UK Nationwide debit cards? I can't believe they would charge their own customers but not those of other banks.

    The relevant passage being:

"When an ATM not owned by HSBC is used, the ATM operator or any network used may charge you a fee (and you may be charged a fee for a balance inquiry even if a fund transfer is not completed).
The following EFT Facility Service Charges apply to Consumer Checking and Savings accounts when using your Debit MasterCard®, ATM card, MasterCard® or Visa® card. These charges do not apply to an HSBC Premier, EmployeePlusSM, Online Savings Account, or Online Payment Account."
Withdrawals, Balance Inquiries, and Transfers* -- $1.50 each transaction.

so yes, it would suggest that $1.50 will be charged at the ATM. Cheap in comparison to the $3 charges elsewhere but still not acceptable even if you are maxing out at $500 withdrawal. As i have been researching over the past 2 weeks since CitiBank started charging by Nationwide ATM withdrawals its seems that there are no more charge less ATM for Nationwide cardholders in the US, certain in California (No HSBC here either)
I will update on Washington Mutual as i tried it yesterday and was not alerted onscreen to any charge but usually there is a 'stealth' charge meaning it appears as a seperate charge on your statemnet. I'll reconfirm in a couple of days.

    Hi,
It was the week before Christmas and our cards were used frequently(very frequently) Definitely no charge and a wonderful exchange rate to boot. By the way we were in New York! Sally

There was no ATM charge for using my Nationwide UK card with Washington Mutual in the US. No onscreen charge agreement page or no apparent adjustment to the dollor to pound conversion rate. How long this will last, i dont know but it is in my experinec the only bank that is not charging UK visitors with a Nationwide Flex debit card any local ATM withdrawl fee.
