Ha ha, I had a long sleep last night, albeit one disturbed by lots of dreams! The MiL is staying
We've booked tickets and flights :j:j Now I'm getting excited!
Got to dash as MiL has surfaced; well done to everyone with the gardening efforts, hopefully back later xThe 1,000 Day Challenge:Feb 16, 2016500/30,000

Bails, Marru - I'm probably not too far away, as I'm in Wroughton, just outside of Swindon. I'm off to look at this house - http://www.rightmove.co.uk/viewdetails-10389972.rsp?pa_n=2&tr_t=buy with views over where I work!Live on £11k in 20110

mmmmm...nice long garden, perfect for growing veg, and garden parties!

Afternoon all, manic on phone here, I've had my ID pinched!!! Apparently, I drive a Ford Ka, which my business is insuring, and have a mortgage for a house in err... Ireland? Some numpty has used my details and expects to get away with it.... They obviously haven't met me!
Be warned - apparently ANYONE can set up direct debits from your account and the bank just pays them on demand - even from a business account!
Supersluething for the afternoon, I'm on a 'must find out who' campaign. Furious, actually, but the bank has authorised a refund (how nice of them, considering it's MY MONEY!!) and can do nothing more. It's up to the police now. Will keep you informed.I reserve the right not to spend.

Sorry to hear about your mortgage, Nyk. Very annoying. Must remember to go online and check out my list of direct debits.
I have just started a thread in the Weddings and Anniversaries board about whether to take OH on my wedding dress shopping trip. I'd be grateful if some of you could ask your OH's opinion/make a comment on the thread. Bit of a dilemma as we do most things together.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Oh Nyk thats terrible
It happened to my dad too,he was blissfully unaware til the bank rang him.............they had to arrange an overdraft for him while it was sorted out
took a couple months all in but no detrimental efeects to credit etc
Good luck

Nyk, how awful for you. Hope you get it sorted soon and whoever it was gets what they deserve.
I haven't posted for a while, been feeling really down, but then I read what some of you are coping with and things don't seem quite so bad.
Whitewing Congratulations on your engagement, good luck with the Wedding Dress hunt - I don't think you should take H2B, isn't the dress supposed to be a surprise for him? (possibly bad luck too if he sees it?)
Andromanche Congrats to you too, my lips are temporarily sealed :lipsrseal
Lyndasharpe the house looks great, and a nice long garden too. I grew up in Swindon, so can picture more or less where it's situated. Go for it, I would if I could,

Hello all, just another quick update.
Lingojingo, nice seeing you back here, hope you are well and not feeling too down.
Lyndasharp - garden looks great with space for veggies and a fantastic space beyond that! What a pity if they end up building in the field later.
Whitewing - Noooooooooooo you can't take H2B dress shopping! Keep it a secret surprise
Back on the frugal trail of fraudsters - police have been and gone and have promised to follow up the case. I am just bamboozled as to how anyone can set up direct debits on someone else's account, especially when it's a business account. Now, however, I am even more bamboozled by the fact that the bank has ALREADY refunded my money! Am I alone in being suspicious of the fact that a full reimbursement has been made before the fraud investigation even begins?
Garden has had a slight watering from the rain today, although it didn't really amount to much. I'm off visiting tomorrow then have friend visiting for weekend so we can set sail for Isle of Man on Monday, so I'm trying to decide if I have enough 'simple' stuff in stock for the others to consume whilst I'm gone. I know that neither of them will go to any great lengths cooking 'real' food when left to their own devices!
Not had dinner yet but the rice is cooked and I just need to decide what's going in the curry. I'm tempted just to do veggie to see if anyone notices.:rotfl:I reserve the right not to spend.
The less I spend, the more I can afford.

Nyk - like you I'm amazed someone can set up a direct debit so easily without a signature. Having said that I found out the other day that a credit card payment I made online turned out to be a direct debit. That implies that if someone gets hold of your security number (the 3 digits) they could do it.
Do you have an up-to-date virus scanner and firewall? It might also be worth running a full scan in case someone has managed to get a key logger onto your computer. I use AVG and ZoneAlarm.
There is one thing this frugality really helps with - keeping track of bank accounts, so everyone on this thread should be able to pick up the problem really quickly.
Is it a nice house you are buying?
If the car insurance address is real and the house too, the police should be able to track the culprit down quickly and hopefully you can find out how they were able to get hold of your details
So glad the bank were quick with the refund, they must be liable otherwise it would have taken for everAiming for a Champagne Lifestyle on a Lemonade Budget

I'm sorry to say, Nyk, that you are the fourth person I've known that this has happened to, and one unlucky victim was caught out twice by someone who kept using their credit card details in Amsterdam (victim is a Brit and went nowhere near Amsterdam). In ALL the cases I know of, though, the bank refunded the money very quickly. Like you I find this a bit strange as we all know how slow the systems are when you are just transferring money into your account - it floats out there in the ether for days, earning no interest, yet when you take it out it always leaves at once.
I suppose they have to act quickly because if word got round that your money was no safer in the bank than in a sock under the bed, we might all start withdrawing on a massive scale...
