    I cheated and looked on the world wide web for the recipe;

    Ingredients

    6 egg
    12 ounces self-raising flour
    12 ounces caster sugar
    12 ounces unsalted butter
    1 teaspoon baking powder
2 (6 ounce) packets orange flavor gelatin
    1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    1 orange, juice of
    150 g milk chocolate, approximately
    Directions
    1. 1

      Preheat oven to 350º F.
    2. 2

Cream together butter and sugar, and then add eggs, baking powder and flour.
    3. 3

Grease large frying pan. Make sure the pan has NO plastic bits or anything that might melt if it gets to 350º F, which it will (the pan is going in the oven in a moment!).
    4. 4

Pour mix in to pan, and put the whole shebang in the oven. Take it out when the middle is not liquidy (use a toothpick or cake tester; poke the cake all the way through, pull it out, and see if it's gooey. If it is, it's not done.) It'll take about 10-15 minutes. It rises quite a lot so be careful about overflow!
    5. 5

In the meantime, mix up the jello BUT use as much boiling water for BOTH packets as the packet says to use for ONE. It makes it a bit more solid. Add the juice of one orange, fresh-squeezed, to sort of compensate, and make it extra good. If you don't have oranges on hand, Tropicana or some from-concentrate stuff works okay too. Guess how much you get from a normal orange, and put that much inches.
    6. 6

Now put that jello mix in the largest plate you can find, or a non-stick frying pan (don't grease one; that's nasty!). You want a large PANCAKE of jello. Place in fridge and allow to set for however long that takes (less long than normal because you used less water and because the surface area is so high).
    7. 7

Now wriggle both the cake and the jello out of their containers, and put the cake on a large piece of waxed paper. Place the jello-slab on top of the cake, ideally in the middle.
    8. 8

Melt the chocolate however you normally melt it. Microwave might work. Allow chocolate to cool a bit, but not solidify.
    9. 9

Using a brush or spoon, begin to coat the whole thing in chocolate. Start at the outer edges; the jello tends to melt in the heat of the chocolate, and work towards the middle.
    10. 10

You can even do the Jaffa cake pattern: five parallel grooves, and five parallel ridges perpendicular to the grooves.

too much hard work :p you can buy a flan case for about 40p in tesco, add a tin of drained mandarins, some orange jelly (8p i think, or was that asda?), and brush with cheapy chocolate :D

edit : if you buy mandarins in orange juice, add the juice to the jelly mix (and don't add too much water, just cut into tiny cubes and use a little boiling water)

But just look at the cost!

Giant jaffa cake madness - looks a bit on the expensive side for me to go to the extreme of making one when I can buy boxes of little ones. However, as suggested by MrDT, I still have a half price sponge flan in the freezer and I have plenty of jelly. Perhaps a giant jaffa cake type birthday treat for DS next week would be a good idea. Hmm... the chocolate might cost more than the Jaffa Cakes, though, even Fairtrade chocolate from Co-op. :rotfl:

On a surprising note, I have just learned that they are organising to try car boot sales RIGHT HERE, in our street!!!! :j :T :T The first one is tomorrow and we're all booked in already. I know I don't have a car, hence car boot, but for a few pounds extra you can have a stall. Now... what can I sell??? :D

thank you, im moved kinda settled as well
ive nearly finished painting (and my house looks so much better for it) ds1 in playschool (best of all thats all free hehe) with ds2 starting there in september.

my only 'big' buy has been a fridge freezer £225 (ouch) but had 10% off as display model i have not added this or the costs of paint, and any needed curtains etc to my target as i wouldnt have done either had i have no moved (does this make sense?), i was finding with just having the fridge i moved with i was wasteing alot the fridge freezer was there and they could del in a few days but for the day i brought it and the following 2 days i did wonder if i should have just carried on with the fridge lol.

the savings thing is a new thing for me, would have had more had it not been for the move, lived in my house 2 months now, the nightmare of the year before now becomeing just a memory

i have lapased slightly (wasnt getting on here enough ) and would have had more if i had not wasted all i made on ebay) so its back to my clear out, have a basket full of items to sell, and qwhen ive delt with them will find some more, saying that ive not gone mega mad in the shops here (since finding 2 charity shops in my town and lots in the next town) i have not been buying much from new

wow i sound boring lol but hey i like it
