It depends on how big Nyk's Camper Van is! I suspect that there'll be a Portable Jumble-Bee bidding for the space too.

hmmm im not actually very portable, given my vast hoards of jumble sale bargains and treasure!

i reaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaally wanna live on a boat, but there are no moorings to be had near me, maybe i will end up with a job near some one day? i would be very tempted.

me and my bf looked into boats, then we looked into double decker buses! they cost about the same but have twice the space, plus no need for a mooring, but i think you need a special driving license...or you definately do when you transport more than 7 (i think) people...

quick, who bagsises a space on the bus?!?
or shall we just start a bus convoy?

re getting old - i am a whipper-snapper, i will look after everyone in thier old age if you remember me in your will :D

ps - jumble bargains of the day - more vintage ladybird books for my huuuge collection, including a fairly valuable copy of cinderella, plus um.... two glass heads..... which look very cool and will be very handy for displaying hats

plus the usual million other things

oh, and i found my mummy a breadmaker for £3 (can't belive i paid a whole £7 for mine last week, i was robbed!!!!!!)

    Hi mumzy,
We are still interested in what you have been up to. It is great having lots of different viewpoints on the thread:D

Hope you enjoy the swimming with DS, it will be nice for you and him to have some one to one time together.:D
Good luck with having another go at stopping smoking.

We could always swap the camper for a converted double decker bus and travel en masse, a la portable communal living type thingy:rotfl:

Jumble_Bee, we could keep tabs on the jumble sales and do a nationwide tour, buy at jumbles & charity shops, sell at car boots and online - we'll need wireless laptops and BOGOF vouchers for McDonalds or wherever else offers free access. I haven't worked out how to register an address when you are constantly on the move and need a current address on voters role, driving licence, passports etc but have posted the question elsewhere to see if anyone knows. Still looking into this, even if it was for a 6 month trial/vacation. :rotfl:

Then we could hold a frugalers' rally! :T

PS: Hi Mumzi, what can't you understand? We just make up the words as we go along, so you won't find them in the dictionary :rotfl: Have fun swimming.

PPS: Wonder if we can use the bus to qualify for special discounts because there would be more than 10 of us? :D

Good luck with trying to stop smoking again, mumzy - you can do it! Sorry to hear about your OH, bails, that must be really tough and so difficult to know what to say as well, if you haven't experienced it yourself. My OH has various family problems and I never quite know how to help him as my family's lovely  Maybe a pimped-up jaffa cake would cheer him up?? ;)

Well, since tomorrow should be a NSD, I've distracted myself from revision by adding up how much I've spent this week - it's pretty horrendous!! A combination of that £50 fine, new printer cartridges, mobile bill and a few other things owed which had to be paid this week has shot the budget somewhat. I'm going to sneak the extra into my signature and hope no-one notices :p

Anyway, I've decided to re-jig my budget by taking work travel expenses out of the challenge spend, and knocking the overall amount down to £2700. This should leave me a bit more slack in my budget and fits in with the original rules of the challenge anyway... I'm going to add the extra £50 into my savings (since the £2750 was based exactly on what money I had left after paying my rent) and subtract work travel expenses from those same savings (obvious adding in the money I make as well!). I'll still pay travel to my work experience out of the challenge money though, since, alas, I won't be earning money from it!

So, er, yeah, I don't expect anyone to have read that ramble, but now I know where I'm at with my personal rules :D hopefully this will work!

Forgot to say that I'm really enjoying reading about all the ideas on this thread for an 'alternative lifestyle'. I'm a bit too much of a city girl to want to try most of them (spending my life roaming in a campervan is SO not me, although I concede that there's a certain romanticisim to it). When I have my own place I'd love to try some of the more small-scale ideas like veggie growing, though! Unfortunately in London £100,000 wouldn't actually go that far in buying a house...

  • Hello everybody, its good to see everybody doing so well. I haven't been on MSE for a long time due to the negativity in lots of the posts (not this one thankfully) so I just gave myself a break from it. I have decided just to come onto this thread and the grabbit boards (can't miss those bargins) I have still been doing the challenge and I have updated my totals. One last thing that I have to share is that I was lucky enough to find my DH some work trousers in the charity shop for £2.50 (instead of £20) and I found £10 in the pocket when I went to wash them!!!

Evening everyone! Today has finally been a NSD, which is much needed! I seem to be spending all the time at the moment = not good. I never know what to post on here, I have no funny stories to tell - I think I must be the most boring person alive sometimes!

:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :T and that coming from someone who quotes Dr Seuss in their signature! Everything on this forum is worthwhile reading for me because I didn't know there really were others out there who frugalled until I came here. Most other friends and family think I'm a loony because I actually enjoy being a part of frugal living challenges and every single person that takes part makes a difference to me - you've contributed loads, so don't get upset just because you forgot to book your seat on the frugal road trip - we're running a fleet! :D

Tryingtodobetter, like Sophiesmum says, that certainly beats Jumble_Bee's 4p coat and I'm awarding you the frugal stakes challenge trophy for this week.

Andromache, campervan for posh birds = top of the range Winnebagos! :) I just looked at them and err... WOW! More expensive than what I'm planning to spend on my entire house. :rotfl:
