I am now starting to panic. I registered with My Child the first week of May, as I thought the CD Roms starter package would be great. I have yet not received any package. However, £9.00 plus a further £80.00 has been debited on my credit card from WorldPay for the subscription, etc. I thought they seemed pretty reputable, until I have tried emailing them asking where my pack is and have had no response whatsoever. Please can anyone advise the best thing for me to do? Would I be able to get my money back? Also, they have my credit card details. How can I stop them using this again? I wish I had seen this forum before being so stupid.

I had a problem earlier in the year with them ringing me every day. Trouble is when i answered they did not speak but you could hear talking at their call centre.
Tracked their number via Google tried ringing them but you can not.
I e.mailed mychild and threatened them with OFCOM and i have never had another call from them again!
So if they are pestering you, e.mail them with your details and number and asked to be removed from their list or you will report them to Ofcom.

I stll haven't received my refund from mychild so I sent them another email through their website.

I sent the CD-Roms back on 24 April by Recorded Delivery. I emailed your company on 18 May asking where my £9 refund was. This email was returned to me unanswered on 23 May. I then emailed Peter Gordon on 23 May, this again was sent back unanswered. Sent a message through the website...no reply. It took you 1 day to take the money from my account but you seem to have trouble giving it back. If the refund is not in my account by the end of June 2008 I will take this matter further.

    Not too rude is it?

I got the dreaded call from the 02074309440 number today. The lady congratulated me for being put on the shortlist for a competition draw then tried to sell me something about maths tutition. It took about 3 goes of me saying "There must be some misunderstanding, I have no children in my care." before she said she would take me off the list. I guess I have got off lightly. What was annoying was that she talked really fast in quite a broad accent and I could not understand half of what she was saying - very unprofessional.

The following website may be of interest. It contains this:
They are a subscription service for childrens educational aids, unless I am using the wrong search terms I've not really found anything about them being a scam but a lot about them using an automated cold call machine and their methods sof generating business. Basically the machine rings a list of numbers from a database and if someone answers it then goes off to find an operator who is free, if no-one is free the recipient gets a minute of background noise and then the line goes dead, otherwise they get put through.

Mychild appears on most competition websites like getmeaticket, myoffers, prizefinder etc so the odds are if you or someone else in your house has entered their details on one of these site then thats how they got your number, it could even be someone miss-typing their mobile number.
I did notice - when I first answered the phone - the tell-tale pause where no-one answered for a few seconds. During this, I thought I heard someone breathing and a sound like fumbling on a phone so I'm guessing they play some sort of taped noise to stop you from hanging up while they direct you to a free operator.

This MSE link is also of interest.

If they call again, I think a certain Mr. M. Mouse might be going to the library later and entering a few competitions on My Offers and ticking all the "contact me" boxes. I wonder what his phone number will be? ;)
Many tx to all who post constructively in all the forums!

I got the phone call last night and just told her I wasn't interested in any CDs or DVDs and hung up on her. I figured there was no need to stay on the phone as I knew what she was trying to sell me and it was 8.13 at night!

I was also "shortlisted" for a competition, but she was a very fast talker, so no idea which one, not that it matters. :D

I still enter their competitions, but put one digit too many in the phone number so they have to email, as someone warned me about this company
