They called me again today trying to flog the CD Roms.... :mad:0
-
I rang them on Friday after being conned on Thursday to cancel the order. I was told it was cancelled and no money would come out of my account. Saturday the money came out  . Monday the CD-Roms turned up. Spent over half an hour today trying to get through, ended up leaving my number and a short message. They rang me back within an hour and said I could send the discs back and would get a refund. I'm not going to hold my breath.
Nasty, pushy company that get very rude and quite aggressive.
I strongly recommend that no-one deals with them or enters their comps.Mortgage: Was: £154,495 Oct 2039 Now: £82,869.54 May 2037Swagbucks ~ £130 (2024 ~ £395)Surveys ~ £139.39 (2024 ~ £280.14)Make £2025 in 2025 #5 ~ £964.62 ~ (2024 ~ £2,561.04)0 -

Here is the rest of the message we received from Paula:“When I go to parents evenings they will tell me that Jake/Joey is good at Maths for example, but should practice reading and writing. However, because I don't know what level they should be at for their age it is difficult to get them to practice at home, i.e., I could be getting them to read/write something which is far too simple. The good thing about the software is that the questions are geared for the key stage level required. There are five levels of difficulty – you can set it as hard as you like.”Paula, mother to Jacob 6, Joel 5.The My Child 7-part education pack - full content

Below is some background to explain why the My Child education package is so popular with parents. Why so many parents find it difficult to help their children with school workHas your child ever asked you a question about homework that you simply could not answer? If the answer is yes (and it usually is!) you are not alone. Things are very different from when we were at school and today‘s curriculum bears little relation to how we were taught. Here is an example to show what I mean. When I was asked recently 'What is the product of 4 and 0' I thought the answer was 4. It isn't. The mistake was more serious than it sounds because it is one of the questions a child should be able to answer at Key Stage 2!
My mistake was the result of a problem that concerns us all: most parents are completely out of touch with the finer points of the National Curriculum. Whether dealing with their children or teacher, most parents lack the means to get the best out of the system.
The outcome? Children whose parents leave their education to the school are at a grave disadvantage.“As I discovered with the Maths Skills CD-ROM, the correct answer to ‘What is the product of 4 and 0' is 0. ‘Product of' is a multiplication, and 4 zeros are zero. I asked a Professor of Economics at Sussex University the same question. His answer was 4 too! So it's not necessarily what you don't know that will hold you back, it's ‘knowing' something that isn't so .. .”-Peter, father of Katie, 6Can you leave your child's education to the school? How often do you attend a parent / teacher meeting? Once a term? Once or twice a year? While this kind of time-lapse may be adequate to stay in touch with basic attainment levels and how your child fits in with the average, those meetings are simply not enough to keep you informed of exactly what your child should be learning. Parents are not given enough information to identify the specific help their children need to move ahead in each subject.Being out of touch with education today is understandable - it‘s true for most of us. A teacher has a lot to do and there is a natural limit to how much time they can devote to your child.
However, the teacher is just one part of the equation. A lack of awareness on the parent's part can have harmful consequences.
The fact is, there are three elements to a child's education: there is the child, the school and the parents. Each is as important as the other. So what is the best way for you to become involved?
As parents ourselves, we understand you cannot realistically be asked to drop everything and take care of your children's day-to-day education - and nor should you.
Most parents just don't have enough hours every evening to go over their children's work, checking answers, trying to help with questions, looking things up on the Internet, (perhaps getting things wrong!) and sometimes ending up doing the homework yourself. This is where My Child can help:“You can leave the children to play the software and then go back to see what answers they have wrong - and focus just on those.”-Paula, mother to Jacob 6, Joel 5The My Child education package helps you stand back and monitor your child's progress in the most effective, time-efficient way possible without duplicating the teacher's time and effort.

My Child is an easy and time-efficient way to supervise your child successfully through school. It's a highly effective, proven way to become involved, to direct your child's education, to get the best out of your child's school years through understanding how your child and teacher are working together.“I always look forward to receiving my copy of My Child. I can't wait to read the articles and I now feel a lot more confident talking to my children's teachers. My children love the software and are always playing the games”-Cecilia, mother to Sam 8, Seema 6My Child gives you the confidence to discuss educational topics with your children's teachers - it shows you are well informed with your children's progress, how the national curriculum is applied, the educational subjects and the standards they are expected to achieve at each stage.
There is nothing like a well-informed parent to bring out the best from all concerned - teachers as well as children!“A busy teacher hasn't the time to keep you informed on a day-to-day basis about how your child is progressing in each of the 12 Key Stage subjects. But unless you know what your child should be learning, you can't really help, can you?”Denise Roberts, Editor, My Child magazineClick here for our special trial offer, or read on to learn more about the My Child education packThe advantage of understanding how schools teach
When children know that their parents and teachers are working to the same agenda they are more likely to take their own education seriously. You'll feel more at ease about approaching the teacher should you have any questions or concerns because you are talking the same language. Teachers likewise can inform parents should any concerns arise regarding the child's learning or behavior while at school. The guidance provided through My Child sends a powerful message to all parties that you are interested in and in control of your child's education.Become a partner in your children's education today
How and what schools teach changes year to year. Whilst some schools are more welcoming than others, all schools are much more open and are encouraged to be so at policy level.
Parents have a right, as a partner in their children's education, to approach the school to check their children's progress. This is the main benefit My Child provides subscribers: parents who know what their children are learning at school are at a great advantage.
You'll know what your children are learning, what they should already know and what is coming next. Our exclusive curriculum chart, delivered every term, shows the 12 Key stage subjects and the tests your children will go through from Foundation to age14.
The overview My Child provides will prove to be an extremely useful set of assets. Teachers tell us they are impressed when communicating with a parent who understands their work, their ever-changing priorities, new initiatives, policies and procedures. If you know what the teacher knows and how subjects are taught you can quickly recognise and deal with problems when they surface.
Ever-changing jargon often puzzles the uninitiated. For example, if a teacher refers to your child's ‘Age standardised test scores' you'll know your child is being compared with other children born in the same month, without having to ask questions that reveal your lack of knowledge.
You'll pick up the key words and phrases, terms and definitions. You will be using the information that My Child provides to communicate with your school at a far higher level, to check and move things forward quickly and with confidence.Eddie needs to practice his words and I need to encourage him to read and write – neither of which he likes. But I can sit him down in front of this computer. It's a good way to encourage Eddie. It has a nice, colourful and interesting interface, keeps children interested – it's fun. It's easy to install. It has separate CDs - you only install what you need.-Margaret, mother to Eddie, 6Click here for our special trial offer, or read on to learn more about the My Child education packChildren ‘self-check' progress
The confidence described above can only come from knowledge, so it's vital to know what your children will be taught and when. With 12 different subjects taught each year from Reception to Year 9, it's a much more efficient use of your time to give your children the My Child software.
Children can regularly ‘self-check' progress under your supervision to ensure they stay ahead. You'll avoid being forced into ‘fire-fighting': a last-minute struggle to get your child catch up when you suddenly discover your child is behind the national average.Preparing for tests and exams etc - a skill for life
My Child provides you with lesson examples and downloadable, printable worksheets so your children can really understand what's taught in class. You'll have a wide selection of free resources, with worksheets for maths, phonics, handwriting, science and English etc.
Here's just one example of how My Child prepares parents and children for tests and exams:
In the summer term, 1.8 million children aged seven, 11 and 14 will sit their SATs. Schools will be preparing for the date long before it takes place in the middle of May. If you have a child of the relevant age, My Child will provide information about the tests well in advance so he or she can be ready and confident.
Click here for our special trial offer, or read on to learn more about the My Child education pack
A BBC survey carried out in 2004 showed that six out of every ten teachers believe that SATs stress children. Both parents and children worry about them too. And despite all the information received from your child's teacher SATs can still appear a little baffling. My Child will help you sail through the experience, explaining:- What SATs are for
- Whey are supposed to show
- The grades expected at relevant years
- What the tests involve
- How you children can be helped
- When and how to assess your children's strengths and weaknesses so you have a clear picture of where they need more help
The software is fantastic - the mix of learning and fun really appeals to Zac. He loves doing the spelling and numbers quizzes. Much better than anything you can find on the internet and meets the requirements of the National Curriculum."Dominic, father to Zac, 4Your membership pack - £181.18 on trial for just £9.00

I had a phone call yesterday asking if my husband was there and could they speak to him. I said he was and asked who was calling. "it's Tom (I think he said that) from MyChild". Well, I said to him that we'd asked for them to take our name and number off their list and to never contact us again, he seemed taken aback but said he was going to do that as he had a TPS button that he would press. Then I hung up. I went and spoke to my hubby who, bearing in mind he's a student studying to become a teacher, said that he'd tried to download some info from a site and it wouldn't work so emailed them. It was at this moment we both twigged :rotfl: . He'd gone onto the mychild website. Hubby won't be doing that again in a hurry.
