Morning :hello:
Well I'm jealous... what with beemuzed spending the day going to John Lewis and JackieO off to Lakeland, and me stuck here in the officeI agree with PenPen about John Lewis - the stuff they sell is expensive (though "never knowingly undersold" so the only reason it is pricey is that they only sell good quality stuff in the first place) but the customer service is excellent, and they don't cut corners. I've heard people say they've gone downhill in the last few years, but they're still better than everybody else.
gazza, I hope your sister is on the mend soon ((hugs))
bethebee, I hope you get better news about your aunt ((hugs))
smoky ((((hugs))))
Made lemon drizzle cake last night, but not sure how it's turned out - it is being served up with out 11am cup of coffee for the team I work inI hope it is OK - it was supposed to be done in a loaf tin but I didn't have a 2lb one, so did it in a round one instead (my Argos silicon bakeware making its debut!) and it didn't rise evenly - it's thin on one side and fatter on the other. Hope it tastes OK...
Off to church tonight, we have a special service for our Feast of Title (we are named after the Annunciation so theoretically our FoT is 25th March, however we almost always celebrate it some time later because of it getting mixed up with Lent or Easter. Should be good, we're singing a gorgeous Mozart mass setting which is one of my favourite things we do. There will be wine and buffet food afterwards, I meant to make something to take for this but ran out of energy last night after all my other cooking. I will get away with it as I am in the choir and also because I donated daffodil posies for Mothering Sunday, but I still feel guiltyI would get something on the way there from work but unfortunately I will be on a tight enough timescale as it is, as choir practice is at 17:45 and it's at the opposite side of town...
Am hoping to be hope early enough (and sober enough!) to rustle up the carrot & coriander soup which I also neglected to make yesterday.
My April Grocery Challenge starts today, so am just off to put it in my sig...
Hope all are well, or on the mend at least.
Love Rzl xx :wave:Operation Get in Shape

can anyone tell me what i did wrong with my bread over the weekend please.
i brought the wrong yeast on saturday, once i got home i noticed it said NOT suitable for BMers. so i followed the instructions and handmade some. it looked fine kneaded and shaped into a loaf (i hadnt got a big tin so i put it on a baking sheet to rise) i covered it in oiled clingfilm and left it the stated time thats where the problems started, i ended up with a large flat cross between a pizza base and a nann bread. it seemed to have lots of air bubbles in and when cooked tased a bit 'yeasty'
i normally used the sachets of quick yeast in the mb, this is a little tin of yeast 'balls'
i will try again as im not going to let it go to waste but want to try and make a more loaf shaped loaf next time.SPC~12 ot 124

Morning all, hope you are all well.
I managed to complete two squares yesterday afternoon. I found some really nice wool in one of those little independent crazy stores that sell plastic buckets and random things and some of the right sized needles in the art shop. I haven't knitted for ages, but it was really relaxing and helped me to calm down a little, so I feel a little better than I did yesterday (although I have a small blister on my hand now :rotfl: ). I also bought a new shiny plastic box with handles too to use as a cake tin - helps appease my tupperware fetish. :rotfl:
Veg chilli for me tonight - OH is still away, but I made a point of cooking it yesterday when I had time, so I don't just get in and eat crackers as it's in the fridge waiting for me. I made a light fruit cake too, to use up the last bits of all the random packets of dried fruit that I found in the cupboard. OH doesn't like fruit cake, so I don't make it very often and actually keep it in the house - this will last forever though as it's indestructible so is a good thing for me to have at home as I won't feel oblidged to eat it all myself before it goes stale. The clock changing has phased me too - my alarm clock is supposed to change itself - but it decided not to. It's not possible to do it manually - arghh - tech is great when it works!
Martyn - glad you are having a better day today. I think honestly that understanding the small pleasures (things like chicken soup and crusty bread!) is knowing how to live.Hope your pie-making exploits go well today.
Smokey - ((hugs))
Bethenbee - ((hugs))
SOMO1 - I'm just outside Oxford city centre.
Rzl - enjoy your service this evening
mrsmortenharket - I love the London aquarium - it's amazing, hope your DS has a good time.
Valjk - fish and chips on hastings beach reminds me so much of when I was younger! It was almost a monthly ritual in the winter/spring for us.
Have a good day all, cel x:staradmin:starmod: beware of geeks bearing .gifs...:starmod::staradmin:starmod: Whoever said "nothing is impossible" obviously never tried to nail jelly to a tree :starmod:0 -
JackieO have a great time in Lakeland
 hello
busy morning so far - WM on, DW emptied, beds made etc. Just have to run around with a hoover and wipe the bathroom down and I'm done! Roofer also been to see if he could spot where the leak is coming from - sure enough something was amiss. He's fixed it and hopefully that'll be the end of it!!
meant to be studying today, but my amazon order (free using juicypanel points) has just arrived and I fancy a wee read, then of course there's my knitting that i've neglected for the past few days.
Procrastination is a wonderful thing!!!! My house is never cleaner than at exam timer.mac, you are so wise and wonderful, that post was lovely and so insightful!0 -
AUSSIE!! Where did you find that one? Definitely a bit too early in the morning for a shock like that!
Happy Birthday to Ms N9EAV - what a shame about your weather - it's lovely here at the moment. Have a good dy anyway!
Massive (((hugs))) to KYLE, GAZZA'S SIS and PENPIN
PENPIN - you often find that with people who are seriously in debt. We had friends like that - they just continually spent money that wasn't their's and lived a life of luxury, ignoring the debts! Don't know where they are now; apparently, they make a habit of changing their names and disappearing. Whether they are still getting away with it, I don't know. I was just glad to get shot of them because they were trouble.
MARTYN - so glad to hear that you are feeling positive today! How's the knitting going?
BETHEEBEE - that condition sounds so painful. (((Hugs))) to your Aunt - what a worry for you especially with no access to email.
Well, I'd better get on with the paperwork and I also have some ironing to do. I need to get some food shopping this afternoon. We were too broke to do it on Friday - DH had received an expected cheque too late for it to clear in time for the weekend so we have been on freezer challenge!
See you all later.

Did I hear my name mentioned?:rotfl:
I love John Lewis as much, if not more, than the next girl, but I do have to say their haberdashery is now pants:p The flagship store on Oxford Street used to devote a huge proportion of the ground floor to haberdashery and all craft items. You could spend the best part of a day just browsing fabrics, trimmings, threads, buttons, yarns etc etc. Now that department is on the 3rd or 4th floor and everything is crammed into a space smaller than any independent high street shop. Just sooooo sad, but I suppose it reflects the demand ( or rather lack of it) for these things. But they're ace for everything else:D Half my home has come from JL. Best quality around;)
kyle, well done you keeping DS1 stable:T Hope you feel better today. Just try to get some rest in.
twink, hope you've not caught the bug, will keep my fingers crossed.
JackieO, enjoy the cinema and Lakeland. Now there's another shop that eats time:rotfl:
Weather seems to be brightening, so may just say s*d the HW and go out somewhere. A bit of sun always lifts the spirits. I don't have to cook much tonight. DH will finish yesterday's casserole, so I'll only need to cook some fresh green veg for that, and I fancy jacket potato and salad. Easy peasy:D
Washload is on, and only a tiny bit of ironing.....are you all jealous:p
Coffee and a quick surf,
(((((smoky))))) ever in my thoughts
(((((hugs))))) for all the worried, sad and poorly ones.

Wooligans
I have just finished two squares for Smoky and might try to do another one before starting on the "warm" squares.
Can't leave the house as waiting for DH's work laptop to be collected.
Pea and ham soup is in the slow cooker for tonight and DD has been hinting about fruit cake made in the BM so will make that this afternoon.
Three loads of washing are on the line outside and it looks like a decent drying day.
Can't remember who was reading a book by John Twelve Hawks but it has reminded me to order his first book so I can see what it is like. (1p from Amazon so not too extravagant.)
Penpin
Think we all are getting an inkling why they are in so much debt.;)"This site is addictive!"
Wooligan 2 squares for smoky - 3 squares for HTA
