Dissolve a pack of jelly with half the water needed, then when cooled down add in some evaporated milk to make it up to the full amount (normally 1 pint). Whisk until nice and frothy and pour into small tubs with lids. Makes on average six portions, depending on the size of the pots. They make a nice change in school lunch boxes, and the ones I made only cost 10p each = 9p Mr S economy strawberry jelly and 50p Mr S evaporated milk. Can also be made with jelly and rice pudding which would work out even cheaper if you get the basics rice pud.
Ohhhh! I'd never thought of using rice pud for making mousse!
I think I will surprise Mr O with a scrummy pudding!Decluttering, 20 mins / day Jan 2024 2/20 -

That brings back memories! Mum used to make what we called 'milk jelly' - ie half boiling water and then the other half of the liquid was normal milk.

I ran out of dishwasher tabs weeks ago and have been using a squirt of cheap washing up liquid and the results are better than the tabs, but I do run the machine with soda crystals every couple of weeks. Am going to make gloop asap as Mum just gave me a load of soap, looking forward to saving all that money on washing powder - and carrying the flipping stuff!

im wondering about what you do with the soda crystals how and where do you put that - what fill up the detergent place up with the soda crystals and then put it on empty on a very hot wash cycle?
can you please explain to a very tired mum at the moment pls my brain is a tad slow at the moment

Hi all, to save the pennies today I ....
Made a loaf of wholemeal bread in the breadmaker
put the washing on the line for the first time this year
Opened windows to air the house
started a new shopping list for the supermarket
washed the bathroom with a microfibre cloth (washable)
checked to see if anything needed to be SWITCHED OFF electric, pleased I managed to shave £1.15 off last weeks fuel bill! My bill is low so getting it lower is hard to do.If winter comes, can spring be far behind?

Hi, I've got loads of old contact lens cases as I get a new one with my lenses every month. Can't bear to throw them out and wondered if you clever people have any suggestions for using them? (I wash them in the small basket of the dishwasher, so reckon they'll be very clean!)
The only thing that I've come up with is a tablet carrier for travelling. (No kids in the house s no worries about child-proof tops) and decanting vaseline out of jar to use as lip salve. My OH suggested salt and pepper for picnics but don't seem to do many picnics these days!
Any ideas please? The beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

Jelly is yes, evap milk, sort of at around 80 cals per serving, but at 9% fat (of which 5.7% saturates) it's quite fatty. But it is really lovely and cheap...and kids love it! :j
