Sneaky ways to save the pennies

My contact lens cases are the shallow dish type with a blue top for the left lens and a white one with a raised 'R' for the right, so they're not much good for anything other than lenses I'm afraid.
When cameras still used film, I used to save the containers to use again much the same as others use their contact lens cases. Now that these have for the most part gone, I find that the small containers with latex gloves in that you get in some permanent home hair dye kits - do just as well. In fact they are better, as being semi-transparent I can see what's in them. I use them for keeping knitting stitch holders in, as well as pins and needles and it keeps my knitting bag tidy

My cases are the same as yours now Unity, though I used to have plain white ones at one time. (I used to put a 'dab' of coloured nail varnish on one so that I knew which was which when I was 'lensless' and things were a bit foggy! It's difficult when you're at the halfway stage:p)
Some great ideas there thanks certainly food for thought:TThe beautiful thing about learning is nobody can take it away from you.

I too have got contact lenses containers, but from now on will wash in the dishwasher and keep and see what we can all come up with ideas
so far the salt and pepper would be good idea for us when we are on holiday at least,,,
looking forward to more ideas
cheers mazI don't know how big these pots are that you're talking about, but presumably you could fit enough sugar for one if you share a flask of tea with someone who doesn't take it, or coffee granules to share hot water with a tea drinker. Would you fit coins in them, eg £1 & 20p so you have change for parking?
Washers, fuses, little screws, drawing pins, dressmakers pins, tape measure, few pain killers in your handbag, curtain hooks...oo-oo-oo---could you make up little jellies for a packed lunch, providing of course the tubs are very well washed?
Or I'm sure a local kid's club/scouting group would find something to do with themFull time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Dissolve a pack of jelly with half the water needed, then when cooled down add in some evaporated milk to make it up to the full amount (normally 1 pint). Whisk until nice and frothy and pour into small tubs with lids. Makes on average six portions, depending on the size of the pots. They make a nice change in school lunch boxes, and the ones I made only cost 10p each = 9p Mr S economy strawberry jelly and 50p Mr S evaporated milk. Can also be made with jelly and rice pudding which would work out even cheaper if you get the basics rice pud.
we used to make it using a full jelly and letting it almost set before whisking the evap in,then it seems to hold the bubbles better and be more mousse like,my kids loved it
now they have left home I use half a jelly and add frozen raspberries for a quick to make pud for OH and me:)0 -

Has anybody tried making a jelly with a fizzy wine for a party occasion to give it a bit of a zizz? Does it work and keep any of the fizz or does it just go flat?0

No, but if you've ever tried a vodka jelly, I can assure you that an Archer's (peach schnaps) jelly is even better! Please call me 'Pickle'
