Perhaps we should name and shame specific charity shops which just chuck stuff out. I know there will always be some items which for various legitimate reasons they can't accept but maybe if we were aware of the shops concerned we could at least question them about their disposal policies when handing goods in, as there might be other homes for them where they would be accepted.

In my area there is an emmaus shop.this is where homeless men work at restoring furnature /making new furnature and selling second hand goods.i have always found them very grateful for any items given maybe because the money earned is what they live off and they try and be self sufficiant with hens and grow veg etc,a really worthwhile project .

nice lady in L'Occitaine told me how to make my own iron spray(don't feel guilty as they stopped selling theirs)Add a few drops of essential oil and vodka(forgot why the vodka but it helps oil disolve I think!) in a spray of water and squirt as needed on clothes(as my last spray cost around £10 this is quite a good wheeze!)

I love threads like this :D

We eat Heinz ketchup, beans and spaghetti, PG Tips, Kenco, real Weetabix, Coco Pops and Shreddies etc - at least OH thinks we do ;) :rotfl: I hide the SP tins at the back of the cupboard, refill the ketchup bottle and put the teabags, coffee and cereals straight into containers. Hes none the wiser lol

I always give DD ice cream in a cone because it uses less, plus if shes been playing out she usually has a friend or two in tow - not that i mind because shes always getting stuff from their mams too.

I cut my facial wipes in half, dont need a full one unless i've been on a night out (rare occurence these days!) and have done the 'full face' inc foundation etc. Never thought to cut brillos up, great idea! :)

No doubt i think of more in a bit  Can't remember my own name half the time lol

Thats a fab idea cutting up your facial wipes. When you have cut them up, where do you keep them?

I save my facial wipes for the morning when I use them to first wipe around the basin and then the toilet. I don't flush them though for fear of blocking up the loo.

That's how I make my air freshener! For ironing water I make the same but without the vodka and just put it in the iron - home-made vaporesse. :T

Be careful using the bags/sacks that are distributed and picked up - not all of them are for charities - some disreputable types will make it sound as if they are, eg by saying they are collecting clothes for Africa, but they're not actually charities they take and sell stuff (and probably skip what they don't want)!!!
