Sneaky ways to save the pennies

I suppose a way of giving stuff to the charity shops without getting sniffed at would be to use those bags that get posted through the door every so often. However, the ladies in the shops around here are always very nice0

Back to saving pennies, i know its prob already been mentioned but make sure you check with work if you have access to any form of discounts, i can get discount on buying vouchers for loads of different shops, like 5% off asda, have to buy in bundles of £100 but can make quite a difference over a yr.
hiya thanks for this you have just reminded me about a voucher thing my hubby is paying for and ive not got around to seeing exactly what its about, but that voucher and 5% rings a bell, i think the company came to his workplace and signed up - will look for info tomorrow but hey thanks again

You could always post the stuff on Freecycle if you're worried about giving to a charity shop. I've posted and received some lovely clothes, and when I posted a friend's shoes and boots (nearly new and she was going to chuck them so I rescued them) I got lots of people requesting them."Never argue with an idiot. They drag you down to their level then beat you with experience." Anon.0

I tend to put any clothing in the charity bins. They don't have an attitude. I know just what you mean - you almost feel guilty about taking something in! Books and knick knacks I take to an unfussy shop or Freecycle.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01

We only give stuff to charity shops now. We used to have a lot of doorstep collections from charities who leave bag and promise to collect on a certain day. However, we found that certain scumbags in anonymous white vans would tour the area very early in the morning on collection day and steal all the stuff before the legitimate collectors could call. Presumably the thieves would then sell the stuff on e-Bay or at car boot fairs.0

I put 2 single beds on freecycle, they were collected by someone and an hour later she rang to say she was returning them....that finished me with freecycle, there was nothing wrong with the beds, she said they were damp....they had been in the house so couldn't have been.
Had the 'not good enough for us' attitude in a charity shop some years ago, so use the bins now, as anyone who has dropped off bags has never come back for them....OMG I sound like a right grump don't I??
Have a good day all, spend as little as possible

Hi everyone,Just reading through all the posts here today, and was chatting to a lovely elderly man while he was walking his dog, and he mentined he would never ever go to a certain charity shop where we live again, after his experience. He was asked to take clothes away belonging to a woman's Mum who had passed away, all expensive stuff, and her daughter was clearing out the house afterwards, and asked the man could he take them away, and he said they were all so good and in great condition and would bag them up and drive to a charity shop with them. The woman thanked him and off he went. He is a lovely man and I enjoy chatting to him, when we meet. He took the stuff to this certain shop, and the girl behind the counter he said looked about 18 ish and hardly looked at him when he stood there. He explained he wanted to donate the clothes, and there were 5 full bags of it all, and she never even thanked him, but said to him"would you like to make a donation" and he said I just did and she said oh no i mean a donation of money? He told me he was disgusted and it left him so upset for a while and he would never ever do it again in that shop anyway. He had driven there using his own petrol found a parking space paid for the ticket and then faced with someone who hadn't a clue, which is a shame.Do a little kindness every day.;)0
