hiya angchris erm... it's even worse than that, it's 3 months!!!

    a bit more detail...

The oranges and 2 lemons were to make a marmalade for breakfasts, with some butterly spread. The flour makes enough bread for everyone to have 6 slices a day, 4 at brekkie, 2 at lunch with a filling as a sandwich (houmous, lentil pate, kidney bean pate…)

The linseeds go in the bread, but not in scary quantities scrimperjan, point noted about the looroll ;) For supper there’s tomato dahl, corned beef hash, sausages with onion gravy, peas and HM potato wedges, chilli con carne, minced beef and onion pies, chick pea curry, nettle bhajee, 3 bean couscous (also a lunch option) pasta arrabiata with olives... There's enough variety that you don't get the same thing every night on the trot...

For dessert, lemon ice cream, lemonade lollies, orange juice lollies, fruit loaf, shortbread, twinks hobnobs (thought I should include them or there’d be a riot!:D) chocolate concrete…

There’s enough for a biccie with lunch and a pudding nearly everyday (we don’t always have one!):o

    HTH,

    Weezl x

  • i am still in awe of your planning skills and rooting for you to come in on budget!

if you sold something you made, marmalade for example, could you add the money to the budget pot?

i just corrected my post whilst you were writing :rotfl:
don`t you ever use any eggs for baking cakes etc? and what about stuff like fresh fruit/veg although you do have plenty of tinned toms and dried fruit. i would seriously struggle :o fairplay to you weezl it shows it can be done on £5 per person per week but i don`t think i`d fancy trying it as oh would be straight down maccy d`s

Hi angchris sorry about the cross posting, I see you changed it while I was writing!

In the getting 5 a day part, I talked about how we meet the fruit and veg component, so I won't waffle on again about that.:p I agree with you that people who want their 5 a day to consist of fresh fruit will struggle to get below a certain price threshold!

From what I've read though, nutritionally speaking, canned, dried and frozen are often more nutrient rich, as they've been preserved swiftly. A lot of the 'fresh fruit' in our supermarkets has had 3-4 weeks transit time, ripening in trucks, with the help of sulphur dioxide! Makes you think eh?;)

I also agree that lots of people couldn't do this challenge because their partners/kids/pets wouldn't like to eat this way. I guess I'm just trying to say, it can be done, and it can be healthy...

Mr weezl knows I am a woman of extremes, but seems to tolerate me remarkably well. And I think we eat nicer food than before I turned OS, so I don't think Maccie D's beckons him yet. Maybe my next challenge tho:rotfl:

Hi Weezl hope you are well.

Been thinking about cheap ideas to help Mr Weezl gain weight (so wish I had this problem myself!!)

I've been using creamed cocunut sachets that work out at about 10 pence each (if you used some from a block it may work out cheaper?) These are delicious added to dhals/curries/soups and are about 400 calories a sachet so could help? Or how about adding desicated coconut to Twinks famous hobnobs, again cheap, calorific and delicious!

I think Mr T's value Peanut Butter is pretty cheap and calorific, could make an alternative to your breakfast marmalade on toast?

Also when I make chicken liver pate I add lightly whipped double cream, it tastes lovely and makes the texture slightly lighter and smoother. It freezes well and I'm sure adds extra calories (my backside would testify to that!)

Hope these help. They certainly explain why I have put on so much weight recently!

I made the liver pate yesterday the only changes i made were adding a lot more garlic about 3 heaped teaspoons of the ready prepped stuff and also stirring in dried parsley once blended i used 2 x packs a's frozen chicken livers weighing 227g is this the same size pack as t's and are t's ones fresh/frozen

I also set it i a 1lb loaf tin lined with cling film and once cooled sliced into 6(100g )portions and froze 5 having the other for lunches this week (got some french bread on ) tasted good warm hopefully better now chilled

  • Hi Weezl,
You are doing amazing. Do you know if you are getting enough iron? I see you eat liver pate and lentils and kidney beans and some red meat. So probly do just wondered if you had worked it out. I'm always trying to make myself eat lots of green leafy veg for iron.

bigmommaf - wow, that takes me straight back to the 70's, the 1970's not mine lol! We used to call it milk jelly, generally strawberry mixed with evaporated milk at my nan's house, thinking back I find it amazing that she used to work full time as a sister in a mental hospital and still be left to look after at least 14 of us most weekends and hols! She was obviously truley old style! She had 7 children and that was only a fraction of her grandchildren - and obviously my cousins!

My mum used to make apple snow - it was extra sweetened (as was everything back then) stewed applies mixed with whisked egg whites - not cooked, just whisked, mixed and chilled! Obviously salmonellla or whatever wasn't a huge concern back then, or at least not in our house!
I made apple snow at school during a cookery lesson, wouldn't be allowed now.
