we cant sell the house we put it up for sale and a week later the "credit crunch" started! We have found a rented place its an old vicarage well a 70's one and the rent is dirt cheap and includes everything except water rates:D has a huge garden and we could keep chooks:Dand save about £400pcm just living there  they are keeping it for us as they want the right tenants not any old tenants as they had trouble with previous ones but trying to not think about it in case it never happens
Anyway hubby has been reading a book about the power of the chinese due to affluence and poulation growth and now he agrees stockpiling is a good idea!!

Young weezl, looking at U S D A
thought, "think you're better than us, hey?
Me and acetate monkey
(who's party look is funky)
could do better than that anyday"
She set out to floor 'em
on MSE's Forum
to eat healthily, well and cheaply.
On the way, she gained friends,
who followed her trends
(but didn't get quite as geeky!)
At the end of the challenge, flushed with success,
She and acetate monkey, dressed to impress,
by their Welsh friend were sumptiously fed.
With their virtual friends they partied and danced
(well, all exept acetate monkey pranced)
and then finally went home to bed.
On the way home that night,
her eyes shiney and bright,
said Weezl "you'll never guess"
"I've a surprise for you honey,
we've spent so little money
and 'til Christmas, we'll spend even less!"0 -

I see we are all in a teasing mood today, sorry if i was a bit obscure before, vis a vis the hamster.
It is a running joke with us, well it is for me anyway! I reckon all hamsters are cannibals, and hence the ref, to masks, chianti and offal....not saying that there won't be masks and chianti at the party tonight, well in my house there maybe!:rotfl: :rotfl:
The excitement is building already.:TBlackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

.... Being of geeky mathematical tendencies myself, it's just my sort of thing! I also have a weird collection of spreadsheets, nutritional breakdowns and recipe costings - and a while back, I looked into the recommendations & costings of the USDA programme (which is why I read your thread when I stumbled across MSE Old Style after googling WWII rations). Glad to learn that I'm not a sad obsessive after all! ;-)
Have fun at tonight's party. I can't join you, but it sounds as though a great evening lies ahead. Cheers, everyone. Your very good health! :-)
Avocet! I think we must've been seperated at birth! You sound like a true kindred spirit. :rotfl:
Hey, thanks for honouring us with your first post! The first of many I hope.:D

I'm back! We now have all the required ingredients for a party (& a few more besides!!) and lovely butcher was...lovely! Scored the meat for me (after telling me I should do it with a stanley knife but the only one I have has been used on household stuff...as you do!) and invited himself to dinner! Didnt take him up on it but thought it kind to offer lol!! Now just having a break before tidy, hoover and then snooze!! Managed t get teh plums in Lidl and the bloke in front was a meany - I had the grand total of 4 items - cat litter, plums, washing up liquid & a drink while he had a WHOLE trolly load...did he say "oh you go first, that bag of cat litter looks really heavy" - Did he heck! Miserable s**.
Welcome previously lurking people! Thank you for coming out to play!! Hope you will stay around!
Shaz house sounds lovely...hope you manage to sell yours - have you had any viewers?
Bob - you obscure...surely not!!
Re the ditty with me being Welsh feel I should say that I am English, although have started saying "lovely" & "isnt it" alot having lived here 14 years!! Ok have nailed my flag to the mast as it were. I am going to see if i can go for £2 a day on the groceries, and stuff. I hope to have fun trying and thought i would do this in honour of achievement you have done, and of course party tonight.
I promise not to barbecue any hamsters...especially as i reckon it will be mostly a veggie diet, although have loads of meat on freezer. I also shop for a lot of free range/organic where i can,so i am having a few doubts...Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

ooooh BOB I'm in your sig, how exciting :T:T:T:T
and there's 4 of you yeah? And two of us, so it's just the same! How fab!
Here's a frugal recipe to start us off: 16p each per person:money::money::money:
125g dry weight pasta each (a large portion, but it forms nearly all of the meal!;))
fat clove garlic each
15ml veg oil each
salt, pepper
and herbs from the garden (i used lemon thyme....)
whizz everything except the pasta in the food processor, store as many serves as you like in the fridge til needed in a jam jar.
Boil pasta, drain, put back in pan, and dress with flavoured oil while still in pan.
Nomnomnom!
And BOB, you'd still have £1.36 left for the rest of the day!:j
When shall I start pampering myself ready for this 'ere party then eh?
Is now too early?!
Weezl x
