If only are you jewish? If so do you have some yummy blini (or other traditionsl recipes) recipes? Could do with em lol!![/quote]
sorry ISOM, only just spotted this (oops!)
my dad's side is jewish as it goes, lapsed an bacon eating but still...
the blintzes recipe my mum has used before is as follows:
4oz plain flour, 2 eggs, 2 tsp oil (sunflower is fine), 8fl oz water, t sp salt (i use less)
sift the flour and salt, make a well in the centre, add eggs and start stirring in th flour, add oil and water gradually, to make a thin batter, (i add a little less liquid and they stay together better, thicker pancake) once all combined used a whisk til the batter has a layer of bubbles, leave aside for a hour. heat a pan, smear with a little oil, cook in whatever size you need.
from the complete international jewish cookbook by evelyn rose (that i pinched from my mum!)Nonny mouse and Proud!!

All the recipes in one place, all the stuff you've found out, write a book!
I bet there would be publishers out there wanting to find 'economical' cook books.

Weezl - you can publish books here for free and people can buy them as an e-book or as a real book

I have been thinking about writing one (cookbook) but i think you should do a challenge diary type book with the recipes in and all the gossip etc maybe Martin:money: would be interested in helping/promoting

Hadn't thought of that!:T
(I was given a 3-in-1 SC a while back but have only really made use of the rice cooker and steamer functions. I should really read through the SC index.:o )
Hi plum pie, you've just reminded me of an awfully embarrassing moment, My MIL and FIL bought me a 6.5 litre (huge) slo-cooker, which I love, it is made by the company 'Bush', and you know how we refer to these things by brand, like 'get the dyson out love? Ta'.
Well, we were having a work lunch the other day and me and a couple of the women were chatting about my grocery challenge, and I thought I'd share how this slo-cooker was really helping my thrifty ways.
I proudly announced a little too loudly, such that the rest of the room stopped to listen the infamous and awful words:
'I put it down to my enormous Bush'
Erp.:o Earth swallow me now....

hehe just back to THAT!! Smut I dont know...thought you were a good girl!! Mind you jam roly poly two times in two weeks is a bit much me thnks...and its not even your birthday!
Alas too late for (a) Blinis - done thanks to a recipe on the back of a fancy flour package! (b) testing cocktails! Not testing Weezl - creating!! I can confirm that The Weezl is yummy! May tone the vodka down a bit as knocked MY head off so yours would be off down the bay on its own!! Mind you that discovery lead to an inspired tweak and away you go...perfection in a cocktail glass! Just as well I tested as then realised I didnt have any ice so making that - it was complex, had to find ice tray in the cupboards under the sink...no mean feat!
Re party the more the merier me thinks BUT I think it should be on here...yup we'll go off topic but in my view this is "home" for us merry bunch and I think it should remain here...obviously its your thread weezl but I would (being honest!) feel weird being in the arms as never go there...thats quite deep I realise but I hope that the board guides would allow us a wee party in the circumstances? Anyone else get what I mean or am I the only odd one!!
Yup note the tip re the plums but my strawberry jam has a name for itseelf at the mo...someone I hardly know asked for a jar & also someone 3 floors up heard about it! How cool is that! Also means that I no longer have to "do a bob" and consider the oldest profession! Dotty cat just tasted the cocktail and seemed to like it! Purring happily on my left arm as I type!!
In terms of party preparations the food is almost done! Veg chopped, pots done, tart cases cooked but will finish tomorrow so really all I have to do is tidy, get the meat & tart myself up & have a snooze!! Puss cats have helped by getting under my feet in the kitchen and almost became the starter at one point!!Nerd no 109 Long haulers supporters DFW #1! BOB, the chilli meal sounds very reasonable! :T :money:
Do your crew have meat every day? If so, how much meat counts as meat, if you see what I mean? Like would a pea annd rosemary risotto with little pieces of bacon itn it count? Cos mostly veggie meals (or smartprice sausages or frozen mince or offal) seem to be the only way I can get it that cheap while keeping meat in our diet.;)
Woul they eat liver and onion casserole? Devilled kidneys?
Mind you, I could sacrifice my posh coffee, and then I could afford more meat, so each to their own!
Since a vegetarian day in our house can be as little as 10p for our evening meal, we can have a couple of more pricy meat-eating days, with the lentils balancing it out!
Don't know if any of those things would work for you? Let me know what you think?! Oh and keep posting your addings up, i love knowing I'm not the only one doing a spot of geeky maths.
Shaz and mumma67, very interesting thoughts on the veg boxes, Seems good that yours has eggs too shaz, free range ones are worth a fair bit eh?
Happy Friday all,
weezl x
He will also sell me half a pig for approx £65, and is going to do lamb and will do beef if enough people want to share, ( can see all these in the yard as well) and it is only 5 miles up the road from me and goes 40 miles away toa small family run abbatoir for slaughter and butchering.
Just need to get my 3 freezers sorted so I have room for some meat.My self & hubby; 2 sons (30 & 26). Hubby also a found daughter (37).
