My personal thoughts on the potato 5-a-day debate are that the 'powers that be' presume we will all eat spuds anyway, so by not including them....we might eat 6-a-day.
Shaz, you mentioned the price of corned beef.....for some reason, we are unable to get hold of the big catering tins of it. You know the big oblong blocks that you see on deli counters etc. At work, our supplier has none, the cash and carry has none and speaking with other sandwich shops, their suppliers have none either.
So, has the corned beef become extinct.....must admit, I've not seen any trotting around the fields recently. :rotfl:Official DFW Nerd Club - Member no: 203.0 -
So close to the end of the challenge now, I thought I had better reasure you all that the food we are eating is lovely. :money:
Brekkie this am was HM bread as toast with marg and HM marmalade
11sies was tea and HM shortbread
Lunch was HM bap with basil houmous, tea, and an iced bun (or two)
I may plunder the shortbread again later, and dinner tonight is meat pie, mash and peas followed by elderflower sorbet or knotweed rice pudding (and tea).
Budget on weezl's sig is looking dangerously low, and as you know she has she has a bring and share on the last day (how inconsiderate, just 12hrs later would be so much easier), so much cupboard rummaging predicted. I think (strangely) there's too much money left: Weez is trying to persuade me to have muesli for breakfast over the next week! (I think she's planning on ending with 2p which maybe she'll spend on a cola bottle each for neatness!)
'The Diamond' was great on Thurs night by the way. Money talks, but can't sing and dance and it don't walk...

I understand ( can't remember the source unfortunately) that the govt thought we should be having 9/10 a day and that they settled for 5-a-day as they didn't think that Joe Public would buy it. Has anyone else heard this? Maybe we could do the normal 5, but top up to 10 with BBeans, juice, potatoes?"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Weezle, wot happened? Your sig said 12p last time I looked. Did you plant the 12p and grow it into £1.24?"Knowledge is knowing that a tomato is a fruit. Wisdom is not putting it in a fruit salad"

Hi all
Have to say that i read a while ago that places like greece , italy etc say "10 a day"... its very rare i fall under that :T .. i eat a lot of fresh fruit n veg... but potatoes are a staple food in this house... in fact if i could only eat fruit/veg/potatoes i wouldn't mind too much...
The only thing is though that i can't make myself replce fresh fruit with sultanas etc -even though i like them ... but i do try to eat as much seasonal stuff as i can.. and will quite often eat fruit in place of a meal as such..so the cost kind of evens its self out....-6 -8 -3 -1.5 -2.5 -3 -1.5-3.50 -
quite a few symptoms in children which can be made loads worse by having less than enough essential fatty acids. These include dyslexia, dyspraxia, autistic spectrum disorders, ADD and ADHD.
Was that the kind of thing you meant, and would you like a list including foods high in essential fatty acids?!;)
Love Weezl x
yes please we tried fish oil to no avail we have cut out all sugary foods but have read somewhere that lucosade ie high sugar drinks can have an opposite effect on children with ADD like the drug Ritalin calms add kids down but given to non ADD people it has amphetamine qualities ...........i think its called a paradoxical effect so wonder if allowing sugar may help

I think you might need to put a link to the original recipe in your blog for copyright reasons here is the link
F&V
Its 5 a day for children
7 a day for adult women
9 a day for adult men
I think it's just an easier way to get the message across to just say 5 a day as that will still be an improvement for most.
And beans do count as 1 portion if they arent also the main source of protein for the meal. So if you have beans on toast then it doesnt count, but if you have egg & beans on toast then it does count as 1 portion. HTH
Oh, well done weezl74 btw great thread :T :T

Hi all
Please could I second a ist of foods with essential fats for children.
This week we have had it dropped on us that they think DS has Aspergers and we are willing to do anything at all that will help.
Thank you.
