Like I've said before....you lot are really having a huge effect upon my life:eek:
No1 chose a roast for the b'day dinner yesterday, so as I was prepping the veg I kept muttering 'stock' over & over. So the spuds & parsnips were par-boiled first, then the rather stringy cabbage put on to simmer & later frozen mixed veg thrown in for good measure.
When it came to dishing up, me muvva thought I'd completely lost the plot as I chased bits of cabbage around my biggest casserole pot in order to not throw the veggie water away:rotfl:
So then three chicken carcass & the lamb bone went into said veg & was left to bubble for the next three hours or so & I've now got a lovely pot of stock to make Pup's gravy & hopefully some soup for us....even tho I'm the only one who looks forward to a dish of HM soup:o
Me muvva was quite impressed, altho she's used to me being a bit off-the-wall about things, but she doesn't fancy the soup either:p Ah well---there's no pleasing some people! I'll have to come live with you lot.....now THERE'S an idea:idea: ...we could start a :money: kibbutz in deepest Croyden:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:Full time Carer for Mum; harassed mother of three;loving & loved by two 4-legged babies.

Weezl - write a book - honestly, write a book. I would buy it!
All the recipes in one place, all the stuff you've found out, write a book!
I bet there would be publishers out there wanting to find 'economical' cook books.

Weezl - you can publish books here for free and people can buy them as an e-book or as a real book

I have been thinking about writing one (cookbook) but i think you should do a challenge diary type book with the recipes in and all the gossip etc maybe Martin:money: would be interested in helping/promoting

Big mummaF pup's gravy sounds delish! He is very spoilt! I love the idea of a kibbutz, I think I might frustrate you all with endless spreadsheets and military precision!;)
Shaz, ace link for the book, I'll peruse that later. About the increases on pasta and rice (both at least doubled in month for the cheapest brand level) I've started trying to plan mealsd around spuds for a bit, cos at the mo, they're 29p a kilo (smartprice) which is half the price of pasta and a quarter the price of rice!

How about something like feed a family of 4 on £15 a week
I know your not doing a family but it converts well and grabs the attention

I like it! If I imply I'm a family of 4 and then it's lentil-tastic, do you think all the folk whose kids will only eat meat shaped like a jet plane with baked beans will get a bit miffed with me? I know it sounds weird, but I've seen it happen on older MSE threads.;)
Actually I've seen older threads where people have been eating on a low budget, and they got slated by their readers, so I think I've been really lucky to have such a supportive gang for this mad little challenge!:D

If you don't even try to get your kids to eat something different, you'll never know what they might eat
As for other threads, I think one got slated because of the lack of fresh fruit (even though the op had mentioned too much makes them ill). I did disagree with the slating on that, as you can easily adapt some things to suit your family's tastes, even if it ends up costing you extra - eg if you only want to eat organic.
I think because you list nutrients etc and do your research, you are obviously doing your healthy eating and so no-one could criticise your diet on a health basisworking on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?0 -

I've been following your thread intermittently, and I have been inspired and impressed with what you've achieved:T.
A thought on your post above, have you tried binding the lentils with a bit of egg add a bit of herbs and spices and forming them into jet planes, dinosaurs etc.Official DFW Nerd Club - Member # 593 - Proud To Be Dealing With My Debts!0 -
