I agree with the eco reasons behind the supermarkets not giving out bags free but am still wondering what to use for my bin as an alternative.

I just found a gorgeous wally trolley, but at £57, I could buy loads of carrier bags for that price - DFW but not very eco friendly

ahhh - can't get the M&S tune out of my head! DS keeps singing it but he's singing "I wanna marry a life time speaker and keep her company"... I've tried to explain but obviously it's fixed in his head now.

A gorgeous wally trolley? surely that's an impossibility? someone mentioned ikea had them so surely they would be cheaper and quite trendy??

But not everyone was reusing the bags and they are frequently seen roaming the streets and beaches all on their own. Currently there are loads of them which only get get used once, it's difficult to change something in a way that will suit everyone but surely if it cuts down on the pollution it's a good thing?

As with most things, I find the issue is far from cut and dried.

Plastic bags roam the streets because for many reasons - bin wagons are a major culprit - school children an even bigger culprit.

If there is an issue with littering, then outlaw littering. Oh wait - it is outlawed...

maybe if they aren't given the bag then they will stop throwing them away, now how could I get rid of crisp packets too....;)

for every study done there is an equal and opposite one readily available but surely in today's throwaway society anything that makes people stop and think for a minute should be welcomed?

The thinking should first be done at the policy level.

First question: Why is it a throwaway society?

Second question: What constitutes something being a "throwaway" item - isn't everything?
