Have you been to the glassworks?
I have no excuse on that one:o I have been to the St Peters Uni campus on lots of occasions and was there only the other Saturday with my Son at an awards cerimony and we inteded to go in, honestly, but just managed to have a walk on the glass roof then back home due to OH having a stinking hangover.
Whats it like? Have you been? But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -
Oh well, thought i would join in here-we are off to Durham again next week. I agree about the car parks, still find the new one a bit bad.
Tend to leave car up at the MIL and walk in-they live on crossgate moor.
My FIL though, drives to the park and ride at Framwellgate moor. They are not on a bus route and they are no longer able to walk in. He hates parking in town and finds the park and ride a far better alternative.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

I always find getting into Durham stressful, especially at rush hour. Though the new carpark is a vast vast improvement on the old steep, narrow, and dark one.

Oh yes, that was a nightmare, I remember as a teenager going in there with my Mam who hadn't long passed her driving test and she got the car stuck on one of the ramps and a kind gentleman had to rescue us.
It was very tight though in her defence, always have a bit of a laugh at the paint scrapes up the wall on the ramps in the Milburngate car park.
If you could move off while on those ramps, you were a GOD at hill starts. Most people's handbrakes wouldn't stop them from falling down backwards.
Remember one time watching a car drifting slowly down backwards, wheels spinning, and carpark filling with blue smoke...
And they were very tight. You could open a door to get out - but not very wide - and certainly not both sides..."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

No idea - never been. I was wondering if it was worth the trip/entrance fee."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Never used the park and ride, will have to try it one day but I would go for the one at Belmont. Think I will take the boys to the DLI museum as they have not long lost their Grandfather (my FIL) who was in the DLI regiment, just thought it would be good for them to learn a little about that part of his life.
Really funny tho some families, mine talk about the past and my Mam is an only child yet I know all about my grandparents, great grandparents, great uncles and aunts and can build a picture in my mind of them. OH doesnt even know what his paternal grandparents first names were. Stange isnt it.
I think we have an obligation to pass on our family history for future generations, I talk to my boys about my upbringing and my family, OH's is a bit of a mistery, but I am working on his Mother to tell all and bought her a family history book for her to complete for the grandchildren. But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

It's sweetness and light compared to the old one. You don't even need to put your headlights on...boredofbeingathome wrote: »Tend to leave car up at the MIL and walk in-they live on crossgate moor.

The park and ride is good, but I get the impression that they're just going through the motions with it."Follow the money!" - Deepthroat (AKA William Mark Felt Sr - Associate Director of the FBI)

Yes she got stuck just at the entrance to the ramp, didnt take the swing wide enough and got sort of wedged in, she tried shunting but was making matters worse.
I had to laugh at someone in the riverside car park practically take the side of their car off on the concrete posts trying to get out of a space. And how many houses have they fitted on the old car park opposite old PO savings:eek:But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.0 -

The Horrible history one, did you manage to catch it?
We also work on our family history, mum is very keen on genealogy and has found my grandmas bros and sisters. My FIL, used to teach at the Durham Johnston, and has a degree in latin, he has manged to go back a fair way with both his and MIL side.
We have traced back about 250 years, via a family bible and records. We also have a good resource on our doorstep, The Mormon temple! Although i try not to go there if possible. It is all by appt only now.Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?

I had to laugh at louise though, because I did exactly that the first time I parked there-opened straight onto those bloomin posts:rotfl:Blackadder: Am I jumping the gun, Baldrick, or are the words 'I have a cunning plan' marching with ill-deserved confidence in the direction of this conversation?
