I am very luck on my side of the family as I have a living great aunt who is 93 and fully alert and a 83 year old grandfather who I see weekly. I can sit for hours listening to stories from the past, its great to know your late families personalities and funny traits via first hand info.

Apparantly I had some characters in my lineage...now why doesnt that surprise me?
But these things take time, I know that I'm, the most inept that ever stepped.

I wouldn't live there for a gold cow, apparently thats how much they cost anyway.

Wonder how they marketed the properties?

What a really good idea. Dont think my Granda would be up to that now though but I am thinking of starting my memoirs for the boys to keep. Will have to be some careful editing but I am sure they would be interested when they are older, they couldn't care less at the moment.:rotfl:

Round about the million mark - I remember when they were for sale. They cost £1,000-£1,200 pcm to rent.

Absolutely - though to be fair, when it's busy, they don't meet at high speed...

  • What is nice is getting it on tape or video.
We have an old reprobate of a sailor in the family, who used to make all his tattoos dance for us- he is on a rather grainy old tape-but it still makes me laugh now!
photos and captions are always good, with an explanation of where you were when piccie taken.
One of the nicest things i ever did,was for my last year 6 class. I found school albums, and old piccies of the class on various trips and productions throughout school- put them together and an assistant photocopied it so they each had a copy. The children were all crying even the hard bitten ones at how lovely and innocent they all looked in the infant classes and on trips. I still get stopped by some of them and they all remember it as one of the best memories they had of school.

Dont think when they leave the comp it will be a similar experience, why do they have to grow up...sob. I keep telling my youngest every birthday, thats it son you are not allowed to get any onder:rotfl:

My oldest is nearly 15 and I cant help but worry at that age, gangs, girls, drugs, drink. Think I will keep him locked in his bedroom.

  • Mine are 16, 19 and 21. So i have been through what you have-it is hard, but we survive.
I like the leavers service in year 6-although as i work in C OF E schools, we go to Blackburn cathedral. Very lovely and i always cry-i'm a sucker for children singing. You should see me at Christmas-I am always crying in the background-it's a hazard being seen like that as the children just think they have to sing to me to get away with things!

Yes they will have you there if they can get away with it. I teach 16+ and I dont want any of them singing to me! Probably would be that horrible sweary ganster rap stuff where it just sounds like a brawl on a Saturday night, with a drum and base machine.
