Natzini - have you tried Wilkinsons for the mini ice packs? I also found that they do tubs of various sizes that have the freezer pack liquid in the sides or on the lid depending on the size of the box. I think they are about £5 for 2 or 4 depending on the size. I got some and they are rather good for keeping my lunch cool at work ( we don't have a fridge in my office).

I'm planning on joining in the GC next month fingers x'd it'll spur me on!!

Buy your bananas in bunches of 5 on Sunday. Then arrange them in order of ripeness and write a day of the week on each banana in felt pen, Monday on the ripest, Friday on the greenest to save time making those decisions on a hectic weekday morning

Hello peeps, just popped in to update my sig, having been away on hols for 5 days. I managed to spend only £58.14 in Sainsbury's this morning, mainly on fruit and veg and some meat and fish. I bought 4 salmon steaks for a fiver which will do us for 2 meals and 6 thin turkey steaks for making schnitzel (2 for now and 4 for the freezer) and costing 55p per portion. I also got the butcher to slice me 4 really thin slices of topside which I am going to beat even thinner and stuff and roll up and cook in the slow cooker - this will also do two meals , one for Saturday and one for the freezer when I am back at work- and these cost £3.20, or 80p per portion. So I am feeling optimistic (I won't say confident!) about reaching the end of the month on or under target! We shall see. I have about £70 to last till then.

No time to read up on all that I have missed whilst I was away. OH has promised to go for a walk so we can build on the good habits we formed whilst on hols and try to walk off the effects of too many cream cakes and hot chocolate!

Back to reality now. Keep up the good work everyone.

    Love Moniker

BigMumma - where are you buying your sugar at 59p/bag?
Ours is 80p, locally, so I may bulk buy if I can get it 21p per bag cheaper :) If I am planning on making jam this year then the cheaper the better, as far as I'm concerned.

Our Post Office has sugar for 78p!!
    And it's not closing.

ds has not been very well today (yesterday now :o ) and hardly touched his dinner of stew runner beans and new pots so i took it into the kitchen and was about to give it to the dog (who had already been fed) i looked at nearlly a whole platefull of food disheartened at the waste and promptly scraped it into the slow cooker where i had a huge pot of veggie and lentil soup simmering...am i gross?:o what do you guys do with half eaten food? my oh would be a bit funny if i told him and might not eat the soup  i think i`d best just keep shtumm :shhh: :A :rotfl:

Not too sure about this one angchris, if your ds was not well, he may have transferred his 'bugs' onto the food whilst pushing it around the plate with his fork.

I think I would have given this one a miss and given it to the dog.

Thanks for all the pom-bear tips. I don't have a home bargins near me, but poundland is not too far away, so I'll be paying them a visit.

I waited in all day for a delivery, only for the company to phone a 5pm to say their van had broklen down and they'll come tomorrow instead! Grrrr   .

Still, I did make the most of the day, I made 3 lasagnes, 3 cottage pies, 2 macaroni cheeses, 2L of stock & 2L of veggie soup, all of which is now in my freezer. :D

I also made a vic sponge When DH came home, he ate what was left. (half a cake!) He is now moaning that there's none left. I haven't told him that the other half's in the freezer. :rotfl:

All this cooking means I should be able to last until next Friday before I need to shop again. :D
Thanks to all the lovely people on here I have managed to cut my hours down to 2 days a week, allowing me to spend more time with my gorgeous Children. :j
