Mrs Lady, can I suggest that you start on your SOA?
The reason is that I think you are in the worst part of all this mess now - emotionally I mean - because at this moment neither your DH or your MIL understand why you are in debt. I think if you do your SOA they will begin to understand (and if you can go further than this, and start incorporating suggestions as to how to improve matters, you will start winning back brownie points!)

I cannot beleive all the support I have had on here. I apologise for not thanking you all personally but am still very new to it all.
So far today has been terrible, worse than yesterday actually. Hubby is keeping out of my way and the mother in law from hell keeps calling, presumably for an update about my latest exploits! I decided I will return to work, there seems to be lots of help with childcare these days I think? Although it turns out if I return, hubby will lose up to half his bursary. Therefore, if I go back it has to be full-time to support everyone. As the children are young, I only wanted to do part time. Hmmmm, seems I have much working out to do.
I still promise to post my SOA.
Hi Mrs Lady and well done! I'm a mature student and receive the full student finance (loan, grant and bursary) my dh earns £11k pa and as understand it you receive full student finance if you earn less than £17k (ish). Not sure what your dh is studying but I'm sure the same would apply. Take a look at the student finance website http://www.studentfinancedirect.co.uk/portal/page?_pageid=53,1259548&_dad=portal&_schema=PORTAL. Hang in there you're doing great!

Well done for taking the first step to financial recovery. I really hope you both succeed.

Hi Mrs Lady,
Well done for being brave. I'm sorry about your situation and it is hard to manage on student finance for sure. However, if your husband feels that he is going to lose his bursary (which hopefully he won't) there is nothing wrong with his taking a part time job too.
Forgive me for sticking my tuppence worth in, but if you're bringing up the kids it will be hard for either of you to go get some extra cash in, so why shouldn't he consider something too?
My husband commuted to London to get his PhD and worked part time in a shop nearer home at weekends. He still got really good feedback. Sure its harder, but it is all possible. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
