  • I'm am another victim of shopper discounts. I am their ideal target as I let 7 payments go out before cancelling. Search for an item in The Guardian for useful up to date info on them. Their only redeeming feature appears to be a no quibble refund policy, but they wont tell you unless you ask! How on earth do they get away with it? Maybe their days are numbered now as Debenhams and B&Q have both dropped them.
  • Hiya, 18 payments they took from my wife's bank account. I only found out when my wife was ill and I had to take care of her account.
They refunded every penny they took. 2 phone calls to them to get it all back.
You have to ask for the money to be refunded.
They give in very easily (at least they did with me) so I'm not convinced that what they do is 100% legal. If it was, why would they give full refunds going back over 18 months?

Good luck getting the money back.
  • Hi, yet another victim here believe it to be after ordering through M & M sports website, only realised after a few months.
  • I have avoided any company that is associated with this scam for 2 years now.

It has cost them I would estimate £5000 in lost sales as I was a regular user of Expedia, interflora and several other listed "rogue companies" who pimp their customers details to 3rd party scam companies.

And the alternative companies I use seem to be just as good/cheap and offer similar if not better service.

I'm thinking about shopping online at Staples. With Staples, do you have to click on a link, or are you 'automatically' signed up?

As long as you avoid any discount offers you should be fine.

  • On checking my bank account I noticed a £10 charge...went back and it was the third charge in as many months..called my bank after reading this thread and they said there was nothing they could do!
I finally got hold of the company that had taken the money (the number is in a previous post and I can't get back to it without losing this page press option 3 and you get staright through to someone.......my "sign up" to this site was through an online purchase at PIZZA HUT so another one to add to the list. Apparently when you have made your purchase you get offered a money off coupon and a 30 day free membership to this company shoppersdirect.co.uk I did not remember filling this in so can't really be sure but I don't think I would have......I cancelled the membership and am getting 1 months £10 refunded so am still £20 out of pocket and not a very happy bunny at all.
  • SPEEDY UPDATE...having read that some moneysavers got all their money back I called the company again and asked for all mine not just the 1 £10 that they offered....she immediately agreed, the whole call took less than 1 minute so obviously they are not quite a s legit as they would us believe.....keep pressing for the full refund even if they are trying to fob you off1

They will try to fob you off, firstly by making out you signed up (You didn't! - They signed you up), secondly they will make out that the majority of customers are happy to be signed up (Not so - the majority dont know - they refuse to give out figures of refunds or satisfied members), finally they will try to fob you off with a partial refund being your only entitlement (Its not - you are "legally" entitled to a complete full refund of every last penny they stole).

Unfortunately, they know only too well, legally, they dont have a leg to stand on, they claim they are refunding you as some form of favour, nothing could be further from the truth, they refund you a full refund so as to remain just under the spotlight, however they are now left standing out like a sore thumb. Which is why they are quite accustomed at dishing out all these refunds.

Well I'm still not convinced, I used ticketmaster months ago, saw the offer of a discount, but didn't sign up for it and haven't ever been charged by shopper discount.

The main issue is if they are getting hold of customer details, it must be from the site that customers have purchased from.

Like I say I don't care how many people say I didn't click on anything, sign up for anything, I still am not 100% convinced many of these people have not actually unwittingly signed up for it, by not actually reading what they have just clicked on i.e a second free purchase, a % off next order or a set amount off their next purchase etc....

If anyone is 110% certain they haven't signed up by for this scheme, then it is the company they have purchased from who should be questioned, because they are without permission passing the customers details on IMO.
