I cancelled my membership and got a refund by calling the number listed in the very first posts on this thread. I was dealt with quickly and efficiently, no quibbles, and I think this is the way they get away with it. I discovered three monthly payments lifted out my account, but no record in my direct debits. They got my details from a purchase I made at the Trainline. I now see this scam is all over the web and has been in the press many times. Clearly this has not stopped them continuing.0

9 AM - 4 PMAlso I presume by cancelling your card (mine is on a credit card) they are then obliged to set up a new Direct Debit...so is this the best way to stop then taking money whilst waiting for your refund?
No wrong. This is a Continuous Credit Card Authority (CCA) and not a Direct Debit. You can't cancel it directly with your bank. Only the company who have your card details can decide to stop charging you if they accept you have cancelled with them within their terms and conditions. If you cancel your card but they can still show a valid CCA in place and proved you are bound by a contract predating your card cancellation they in theory can continue to charge you on the card or issue debt proceedings against you in court. Of course in reality I doubt this outfit will do so since they only seem to pick on willing victims and always back off when an investigation by the authorities looms. If they always refund people who complain they avoid the possibility of being accused of any crime as the current weak legislation stands (as though if you handed back goods as a shoplifter when caught by a store detective that this meant no crime had been committed!)
So you should proactively cancel by contacting the above phone number and demanding back all money paid to them on the grounds that you never willingly agreed to take their service.0 -
Have checked bank account today and have received hopefully the first of three £10 refunds. They did say there would be three transactions.
So we'll see if they're good to their word. Of course would have been better if they had been more upfront and honest in the first place.0 -
Yes that must be who I mean!0

It was Ticketmaster that got me, just charged me £10. However no email in my spam box from shoppers discount! Where do they get off thinking they can just take money of people like this!0

thank you so much for this detailed information - I have called them today and they are refunding the last 3 payments to me in 5 - 10 days and sending me a form for the other 6 payments (which I hadn't even realised I had made). Clearly they do know it is a con - but I didn't take that up with the operatior who was actually more than helpful. I am not normally a fan of Barclays - but they froze my account last month when the payment went out to alert me to the con - really appreciate that too. I will look at my account much more carefully in future - feel like a real idiot!0

After noticing a unrecognised Visa payment of £10 on my bank statement for June, I checked with my bank who told me that it was for Shopper Discounts & Rewards. I had no recall of authorising any such payment but my husband remembered ticking a box offering a £10 cash back incentive on the bmibaby booking form when booking flights online. We assumed that it must be a 'one off' membership payment (not that we wanted to become members anyway - just thought we might be in for a £10 discount on our next flights).
We have today booked flights with Ryanair and were quite surprised to see the same button displayed offering the same cash back incentive.
On seeing this, I promptly checked my bank statement and discovered that Shopper Discounts had taken another £10 at the end of July, so this is obviously a monthly amount being removed from my bank account. I will be contacting them as soon as possible in an attempt to put a stop to this underhand practice and I will also be in contact with bmibaby and Ryanair to let them know my opinion of this.
From reading other members' comments, it appears that many companies are allowing Shopper Discounts & Rewards onto their websites and I wonder what is in it for them.
I live in hope of getting a speedy solution to my problem and wish everyone else luck if they have fallen into the same trap.0 -
Yes, I've just found out that Ticketmaster sold my card details and I've been charged £90 in all as it was an account I wasn't using while on maternity leave and stuuupidly didn't check in detail until now. :mad:0

Call them and tell them that you never gave your authority for any of these payments to be taken from your account and demand that all the money be refunded or you will have to pursue the matter with trading standards and they will refund you all the cash.
I would have thought that might have been obvious if you had read some of the other last few posts in this thread?0 -

Around 5 to 10% of the cash that SD & R manage to successfully permanently steal from less vigilant customers who do not complain or get a refund has previously been reported to be the answer to this question.:mad:0
