  • I would like to thank 'davedanger' for his advice re-shopperdiscounts. I was dismayed to find they were debiting my credit card for £10 a month; folowing daves' advice i have cancelled my subscription and am awaiting a refund.
My 'subscription' was through Ticketmaster, how do they get away with it?

  • Hi, I would like to thank all of the advice posted on this discussion.

I found out last night that I had been paying £10 per month for the past 15 months and after finding the advice posted by you guys have just spoken to their customer services team who have reassured me that a FULL refund will be issued. The offenders in my case were Ebookers.com.

This is how to play it:
    • Call 0800 731 9935 and dont select any of the options.
    • You will be put through to a customer services rep.
    • Explain you have just found out they have been taking your money without authorisation.
    • They will try to pass the buck on to the company that gave them your details and say that you or someone with permission to use your card has signed you up to the membership.
    • Deny any recollection of this happenning and explain that this is not a site that you would ever use.
    • They will offer to cancel your membership and refund the last charge taken from your account.
    • Demand that they refund the full amount taken to date otherwise you will have no option but to take the matter to trading standards.
    • The rep will then pretend to type something in to the computer and respond with:
    • "ok what i can do for you today is refund the past 3 months worth of charges which will appear as 3 seperate payments on your statement, i will then send you a claim form which you need to sign and return to us by fax or post. Once received we will refund the rest of the money within 5 - 7 working days."
    • Job done. hang up.
Will let you know when the money turns up!

:mad:I have noticed today £10 taken from my account over the last three months. Phoned Shoppers Discounts today to see what was going on. They claimed I had joined whilst making a purchase through seetickets back in May. Have checked as this may be possible but not on this occasion. Woman said I would get three £10 refunds within the next 10 working days as she could so I hade not used this as all. Have received confirmation email and cancellation ref. Will wait and see what happens next. Have also reported this to my bank who advise to see if refunded occurs. Am also waiting for a call from Seetickets.

Thanks marleyboy - £30 is the full refund due as far as I can see.
Have since spoken to Seetickets. No puchase was made against the card number Shoppers discount gave me.
Phone number I rang in case of use to anyone is 0800 731 9935.

Seetickets are a well known bunch of scammers who are worse than Ticketmaster and who shamelessly ignore all PhonePayPlus regulations requiring them to declare the length of any call queue before you get through and the cost per minute on their 10p per minute Premium Rate 0871 ticket booking line number. I only had to call their number in the first place because the website they set up for Queens Club tickets for the tennis didn't work correctly.

And I decided to register my complaint with Trading standards just for the hell of it. Now I'll have to wait until deadline day 24th Aug and will report back.

So far have received two £10 refunds - awaiting the third. Had to phone them again however as she made an 'error' by only putting one payment through initially.

Don't you mean with the useless numpties at Consumer Direct as my local trading standards in Surrey now refuses to take direct complaints and insists that you register them through Moron Direct.
  • I recently noticed a £10 debit to Shoppers Discounts. I questioned this with the bank and emailed Shoppers direct immediately. They cancelled my "membership" without question and advised that I was owed £80 refund which would be repaid within 10 days, again without question.

I had, apparently, filled out their form on the Interflora website. I categorically disputed this.

I am always very careful to check my bank statements but obviously not careful enough !!

I have also contacted Interflora to question their association with Shoppers Discounts.

I have had to cancel my debit card resulting in inconvenience whilst I await a new card.

Isn't it about time something was done about this practice?
  • Hi
I'm also trying to get a refund from 'Shoppers Discount' would you mind letting me know the email address you used to contact them as I can't find it online. Also I presume by cancelling your card (mine is on a credit card) they are then obliged to set up a new Direct Debit...so is this the best way to stop then taking money whilst waiting for your refund?
    Thanks for your advice.
