Its amazing that this has been allowed to carry on all these Years, even taking refunds into account, this company must be raking it in on just the interest alone. We are not looking at one or two complaints here either, yet still absolutely "ZERO" has been done about it.

I should point out that any company that willingly passes or gains your bank details onto or from a third party is "highly illegal", as the Data Protection Act clearly states - if a company wants your personal and financial information they must ask you for it, not get it from a third party.

However they try and dress it up, they know this is a serious breach, its why they pay up so eagerly, ensuring the customer will not take it any further, so they are free to keep on raking in the Millions in profits each year, no matter how many refunds they hand out (mere loose change) to those demanding it.

Watchdog are far too busy twiddling their thumbs and "debating" it to do anything about it (maybe they were paid off), its clear many people have reported them, its even more clear nothing has been done about it.

I was the victim of this scam as well. Noticed on my bank statement this morning that a £10 payment to shoppersrewards.com went through yesterday. I was about to call my bank but googled instead and found this page. I have since called that godforsaken place and asked them to cancel my 'membership'. I'm outraged that this is allowed to happen as I didn't sign up to anything! It happened when I was ordering pizza online from Pizza Hut. I will be complaining to them for endorsing this awful scam.

If you also get caught by this scam, call Shopper Discounts and Rewards on 0808 234 1539 (unfortunately you get charged for the call). When you get through you are given a series of options. Option 1 sounds like the one you need, but ignore this. Use Option 3, which puts you through to a member of the team directly. Make sure that you ask for a refund, not just a cancellation of your membership.

I have just discovered I have been paying £10 a month since August, after ordering something from Easylife catalogue. I shall phone Shoppers discounts and Easylfe tomorrow to complain. As everyone has already said, this seems to have been going on for a long time(I have not heard about this before and probably would not have if I had not had this personal experience),so why is no-one in authority taking it seriously and putting a stop to Shoppers Discounts? It is scandalous!

Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou for the advice in getting a refund. I had been charged for this 'service' since November. Rang today, selected option 3 spoke to a very very polite customer services operator who arranged a full refund within 10 days. If it were not for this forum I would not have bothered about attempting a refund as I felt humiliated about getting caught in this scam after purchasing tickets on the Ticketmaster website, as I generally regard myself as a pretty savvy moneysaving shopper! Thanks again and I encourage everyone to ring for a refund. This way of attaining monies is surely not legal!!

I was also a victim of this vile practice after being offered a £10 voucher off my next order at Pizza Hut. On thoroughly checking my account, SD&R have been taking £10 a month since January. I've contacted my bank who were well aware of SD&R. They've told me to do as many people on here have already done. Contact them, request cancellation and a refund. They also advised me to request WRITTEN confirmation of this. The bank have said that if they continue to charge me then they can get involved.

There are always going to be these companies trying to scam people, but what annoys me most is that 'reputable' retailers and businesses are getting involved with them!

I'll post an update to let you know how I get on.
  • Mine was through Ticketmaster! Who I thought were a reputable company, but now I'm £50 down because of this Shoppers Discount fiasco. I've been abroad so didn't notice the £10 a month coming out of my account, but cancelled it today as Barclays gave me their number.
I got that standard email '"Our records show that you or someone in your household joined the Shopper Discounts and Rewards programme after completing an online transaction with.." as well. I'm almost 100% certain that I didn't enter the last four digits of my card as confirmation!
They claim that they make it as clear as possible, but how can they is we're all caught out by it??? Are we ALL of sub-normal intelligence and don't notice when we're signing up for a monthly service? By the way, what exactly is the service????? I'm so angry :-(

Make sure you claim your refund, dont let these schemers get the benefit of keeping it.

    It only takes two steps:
1-A phone call (2-3minute), confirm your email, name and address (and you'd like all your money back, as you didn't know that you signed up to this scam).
2-Posting of the claim form. (which they email to you as a result of the phone call):
    Quote:
This notice confirms that your Membership in Shopper Discounts & Rewards has been cancelled as of **/**/****.

Your cancel confirmation number is: 2484####.

Note: Your cancellation ref number is in the email they send with the claim form.
