I have also just noticed a 10.00 charge on my credit card which I did not recognise. I contacted shoppers discount on the number mentioned previously and if you enter option 3 you will eventually talk to a customer service operator. They are quick to stop your membership and refund all the payments you have made unwillingly which reinforces that this is a scam and they know it! I was advised by my credit card company that this was probably signed up to through booking a flight with easyjet. It's in the terms and conditions supposedly. This is frightening that easyjet are involved in such a scam. I will be re-thinking who I travel with next time. How dare they sign us up to something we obviously don't want or need!:mad:0

Hi guys
I am the idiot who never checked her Credit Card account - due to moving house and starting a new relationship. I just paid the account in full every month - not looking to see what I was paying for.
This company has been taking £8 off me since July, I have cancelled and got the last months subscription back, but can see no way of getting back the rest of my money.
This happened when I booked flights on easyjet or ryanair in May, not sure which, will be researching more.
I did not give my credit card details to this company so they must have got them from either easyjet or ryanair - surely if they have given this information out, it is an offence under the Data Protection Act?0 -
This company does my head in. Now my sister has just realised shes been caught out by using Easyjet and is claiming 4 months back as I type.
I would be prepared to donate towards a class action against this scummy company.
How can they get away with this, it has to be ILLEGAL surely. I cannot understand how they can be allowed to trade in the UK, a country with supposedly tough trading standards etc etc It is all !!!!!!!! or something??0 -
Hi, new to forum. Thought I should join to add my experience with Shoppers Discount.
I recently used The Trainline.com and they offered £15 cash back on my train ticket.
I received the money but had found out I had paid £10 membership fee in January.
Have contacted shoppers discount and canceled my membership. Turns out they took another £10 on 4/2 but, have been assured this will be refunded.
All in all I am £5 up but, had it not been for me checking my bank statement (which I rarely do) I would possibly of paid this for goodness knows how long.0 -
I just had a conversation with Mastercard about an unexpected £10 charge from the Shopper Discount site.
No charges were indicated when I signed-up on a screen I THINK was tagged onto a recent Expedia flight booking.
I've just eMailed Shopper Discount, cancelled my membership and requested the refund of this fee.
There's no mention of any fees in the sign-up eMail and I've just had a root-around on the site and can see no mention.
I'll give them the benefit of the doubt... for the moment.0 -
I signed up with SDR in Jan 2009 as a result of a flight booking with ebookers, paid for by credit card. They offered £15 Cashback when I booked another ebookers flight. As I was about to do just that I signed up and input my bank details for payment of subscriptions by direct debit. I never do the repeat debit card/credit card thing - I have been bitten by that one before.
The cashback duly arrived and before the end of the first month I cancelled by email (this was allowed as part of the deal) because my spending plans for the foreseeable future did not provide me with any net benefits under the scheme.
There have been no debits from them on the credit card I used with ebookers and everything has been OK but you MUST remember to cancel. Just one thing, though. I have just cancelled an unused DD mandate entitle <SWB Deposits> which I assume was from them. Why do these companies use such unrecognisable names on DDs? It was a while before I knew that an <EC> DD was for <Egg Money>.0 -
I am very supirsied by how many people are saying they have been victim to a "scam" and that they must have been "scammed" as they are usually so careful. Amazing how many people, in forum's say they are usually so "careful" and are suprised to have been caught out by a "scam" even though they go on to mention they have not checked their bank statements for eight or so months and have just noticed monthly payments of £8 or £10. These are people who THINK they are careful.
I recently bought some train tickets from trainline.com and at the end of my transaction was offered £10 cashback for my next purchase. Obviously, the offer of £10 cashback is worth investigating so I clicked continue. Low and behold I was taken to the Shopper Discounts and Rewards page and offered membership. Yes, it took some reading, and, yes, it was not 100% clear but it was not exactly difficult to realise that this was a cashback website (the offer of £10 cashback was a bit of a giveaway (hence the inclusion of the word cashback)) and to theri credit the instruction on claiming cashback on the trainline purchase were very clear. What was also VERY clear was the £10 EXTRA cash back offered on the next purchase that month. You have to email your emailed receipts from thetrainline.com to an email address given by Shopper Discounts and Rewards. I followed the instructions and, low and behold, yesterday, two weeks after my trainline.com purchase I recieved a cheque for £15 (initial cashback) and today one for £10 as my £10 monthly bonus as I bought another train ticket the next day.
One thing I have to make very clear (although I do recognise it is misleading for those who are not careful you do have to enter an email address, your address (to send a cheque) and YOUR DEBIT / CREDIT card details. The companies associated with these sites do not hand your card details on, you have done it yourself. You have simply been offered cash back, hastily gone through it and agreed, not taken the time to read the details and then forgotten that you completed the initial cash back form.
The way the initial form is composed, where the further instruction are not in giant letters (although they are pretty clear) is slightly misleading to naive people (who amusingly claim to be so "careful") I guess and I suppose slightly immoral.
I do not work for this company. I recieved my two cheques then cancelled my account before my 30 day free trail expired. Guess what, made £25 and wasn't charged a penny by this company. How did I do this, by being trully CAREFUL.
For all you people complaining of being scammed - always treat cashback offers with caution and read, VERY CAREFULLY, all the details. Mobile phone contracts often offer cashback but it is only in the depths of the small print that they inform you cashback is only by redemption and you have to send bills (usually every four months) recorded delivery to them within a strict time scale. This is not a scam but the mailing of invoices is very similar to discount shopper and rewards site.
Next time you come across a link for this site after a transaction follow the instruction CAREFULLY and you can easily make £25 and not be charged a penny. A true money saving tip (for those who are CAREFUL).0 -
With respect Philfromwales, the reason it is a scam is that at no point is it made clear that you are signing up for a recurring charge.
If it was made clear then we would not have this huge thread.
The reason this scummy company cant make the charges clear is that if they did they could count the number of people signing up on one finger.
Its a scam pure and simple.0 -
you can add petplanet to the list of companies who are allowing this .0

We too have been paying this scammy lot £8 for some months - i have just tried to email them and it bounced. i was using the address they give on the website:
customerservice@shopperdiscountsandrewards.co.uk
which does not seem to work now. Has anyone got another email address for them?
Thanks.0
