I am delighted to tell you that adaptive affinity have fully refunded me and I am now over £500 richer than the start of all this ridiculous scam. (not really richer since it was my money they removed in the first place)
If my experience is anything to follow then:-
1) check your online bank statements and then check them again
2) tell your friends and family how daft you were not to check your statements properly
3) complain to adaptive affinity if you are unhappy
4) complain again and a 3rd time for good measure
5) write to your MP - mine was quite helpful - I think!
6) promise Adaptive affinity that you are taking them to the small claims court - quote the legal jargon from this forum
7) stick to your guns and whinge like hell!!

Thanks for the tips on here. I have also been fleeced. I was checking my bank statements at the weekend and discovered I'd been paying highstreetmax.com between £14.95 and £17.95 since 2010. They've taken a total of £308.05 from me when I have no idea what I signed up to. I emailed them at the weekend asking for a full refund and today received the following reply:Thank you for your email received on 29 March 2012 regarding how you became enrolled in this membership with High Street Max. We have set out a brief explanation of this process.
Your membership record indicates that you agreed to try High Street Max when you clicked on a banner ad presented on the Last Minute website after an order was placed. This banner offered a £15 Cash-Back. To become a member you have to physically input your details in the empty field provided and this includes your payment card details.
Additionally, by enrolling in the trial membership, you agreed and acknowledged that after the trial membership period, you would be billed the monthly program fee.
A welcome e-mail was sent to the e-mail address you provided at the time of enrolment. This e-mail would have also explained the terms of the membership as well as the benefits you
are entitled to.
However we understand that you have not made use of the service. In light of this we have processed a discretionary refund of £107.70. This will be credited back to your account within 7-10 working days from date of this email.
If you have any queries now or in the future, please feel free to contact High Street Max by telephone or email during normal office hours (Mon-Fri 9am-5pm) using the contact information provided below.

Thanks for your advice. I emailed the following reply to them:Thank you for the refund of £107.70 which you say will be in my account within the next 7 to 10 working days.
I expect the remainder of the money you have taken from me, £200.35 to be refunded to me within the next 14 days from the date of this email, and if I do not receive it by then, I will start proceedings with the relevant regulator and the Office of Fair Trading, and I will add to it any additional costs that I may incur as a result of this.
I received this email on Friday:Thank you for your email received on 29 March 2012. We have attached a visual representation of enrolment, terms and conditions for your reference.
Further to the explanation and screenshots, we can only reiterate that to become a member you had to physically input your information including the payment card details, tick to accept you have read and understood the Terms & Conditions, and then submit your application.
Without physically inputting and submitting your details there is no possibility of activating a membership. Your personal information and your acceptance of the membership terms and conditions is protected during transmission by Secure Socket Layer (SSL). When a prospective member completes the registration process the SSL scrambles or encrypts the information before it is sent to us over the Internet. This protects your credit card information from being read while it is transferred. When we receive the information, the information is kept encrypted until we are ready to process your request. SSL is supported by Microsoft IE 3.0+ and most frame-enabled browsers. You will see a small key or padlock to the right of your browser address bar if you are using Netscape or Microsoft browsers, indicating that your transaction is secure. Our company abides by high standards of responsible corporate practice and undertakes quality controls to ensure its respective business practices meet or exceed industry standards and applicable law. Significantly, our practices include multiple disclosures about how and when a member will be charged. We also have a policy of inserting our contact telephone number in the billing descriptor of the payment to ensure that members are able to contact us easily, should they have any queries regarding the transaction.
*In light of the above, our final decision on this matter is that we shall be offering a further refund of £65.80 will be issued as part of the companies discretion. Please allow within 7-10 working days for the amount to be credited.

So there is reasonable progress. Wait until the proposed refund is safely back in your account. Then follow my instructions in post #1243, paying particular attention to telling them that unless the remainder of your monies are not returned within 14 days from the date of the letter that you will start proceedings in the County Court in order to recover the remainder and any costs associated with attempting to recover it, ie court fees. No need to bother mentioning the OFT or other regulators as they are toothless wonders.
State clearly that regarless of what they are telling you, that you did not authorise debits from your account in the way that they have described.0 -
I joined SD&R via the JD Williams website. I knew I was joining and have saved lots more money than the £10 sub that I pay per month plus if I make a purchase from JD Williams - I joined via JD Williams web site - and send the e-mailed confirmation to SD&R (regardless of the cost - one per month - I get a nice crisp cheque for £10. this works despite the cost so £5 +P&P on pillow case - for example - gets me a £10 cheque. Then any other payments made via the SD&R website gets me typically a 10% refund. Just bought a kenwood chef plus chopper attachment and mincer attachment from the coop, best price I could find and 10% cashback from SD&R. S mill for the kenwood from Currys (only place I could find on the web with them in stock and also one of the cheapest prices I found, a new sharp microwave from Currys again 10% cashback. I've also bought loads of other stuff via SD&R. Sure it takes about 90 days to get this cheque but I can wait for this and this is in addition to the £10 from JD Williams purchases which have always come withing a month of sending the confirmation. The site also lets me pay for items with a cash back credit card
Sorry guys but I am pretty happy with this service, but then I did know I was joining - I would have been furious if I didn't - and have saved over £150 in the past few months and I'm talking cash that is now in my bank. Doesn't seem like a scam to me.
