Arden Grange is the cheapest "good" food I could find. My local pet shop doesn't have it on show but orders it on request at no extra charge. It costs me £25 for a 15kg bag (but thats without VAT, benefits of living in Guernsey). Remember to check the amount of food you need to feed when comparing the price - if you have to feed more the bag won't last as long!

Maybe try Autarky? I bought 30kg from ebay for £33.98 inc p&p recently.
Locally I pay about £18.50 for 15kg. When I compared Royal Canin and Autarkys ingredients there wasn't much difference except a slightly higher protein level in RC. I don't know about Burns as my dogs wouldn't eat it:confused: when I got samples from the local pet shop......

Certainly my dogs and a few others belonging to friends who I've converted:D are doing well on it, shiny coats, plenty of energy and not too much coming out the other end IYKWIM;)

There are cheaper out there like Wagg and a couple of working dog foods ( sorry, can't remember the names!) but in my experience they didn't suit my rottie who's prone to a sensitive stomach, but no other health problems.
I changed over from Royal Canin when it went up to £42 for 15kg:eek:

Often with some cheaper food you end up feeding a larger quantity and therefore doesn't in fact work out cheaper. So just make sure you do a few calculations before buying.

Our pups are 12 and 7 months respectively and on Beta Puppy large breed - we will be looking for a change once the little one reaches 12 months, I've been looking at the labels and Autarky sent me a sample - the dogs absolutely loved it. I'm a bit hesitant at moving the little one to adult food yet, but, the price was good with Autarky. I will probably wait for her to reach 12m before changing - two different sacks and we are bound to mix them up and run out of space!

Our two previous dogs, we lost them within a year of each other :9 - we always fed on Omega Tasty - the lab had the sleekest coat ever, and the setter was just plain happy! The lab lived til she was 17 and the Setter had an illness not related to her diet at all.

Its a toss up between Autarky and Omega - Omega reminds me of my other two, but 15kg was only about £12.

My 12 yo has just had her teeth cleaned and scaled and now has tender gums. And a sore jaw.
I've been advised to give her soft food for a few days. I stupidly thought tinned dog meat would be cheaper than buying chicken or fish!
The tin says a dog her size (28kgs) should have nearly 3 tins a day.

As I normally feed semi-dry food I've no idea what is the right quantity.

Can anyone help? I should be give her her dinner around 6pm

Perhaps too late, but couldn't you do the classic chicken & rice?

They always tell you to feed them too much so you'll buy more dog food. I would feed that size dog a tin a day +mixer, so a tin and a half without mixer should be fine.

    Thanks both.

As it is she's not feeling like eating tonight. I'll try offering something in the morning.

When my 11yo had dental work done recently we gave her wholemeal pasta, sunflower oil, mixed (frozen + cooked) veggies and tinned sardines until her gums healed. The vet then suggested she went back on complete dried. The pasta mix worked out cheaper than tinned stuff IMO - and it didn't smell apart from the sardines.
