bloody royal mail

Options
i live in a new build block of flats with mailboxes and buzzers.and everytime they try to deliver anything bigger than a letter.they always put a nobody home card through the door.without ringing the door bell,i always complain when i go to pick the item up.and they say we will tell your postman,

.today i knew a package was coming so i looked out for him and asked him if there was anything for no 37 hes said no,.it was stupid of me because i live at no35 lol.

when i opened the mail box there was a card.,,once again he never rang the door bell .so i decided to ring the number on the card chose the make a complaint option,

.i told the woman about postman never ringing doorbell she said they dont ring doorbells on flats its proceedure to just write a not in card .so because i live in a flat i have less rights to royal mail service than home owners .didnt see that in the news

I suspect it's standard practice but that doesn't equate to official procedure. I agree with C_Ronaldo, make a complaint to head office or try and talk to the manager of your local delivery office. Custardy (if he's about) might be able to shed light on what is actual procedure for flats. But I really doubt it's simply to not deliver at all for large items.

To be honest i was surprised at the womans response i asked if this was actual procedure for flats.she said yes i tried to get more out of her but she was keeping quiet and said its royal mail policy.cutting me of dead

so if i live in flats, and am expecting a parcel, i might as well not bother waiting at home for it?

I'm furious with royal mail too!!!. I was expecting a parcel so I asked for it to be delivered to me at OHs business address because we can guarantee someone will be there during office hours. The parcel was sent recorded delivery-as expected. We had a card put through saying no one was in (despite the fact that no one had even tried to deliver as someone was in!!!)and to phone to arrange redelivery etc. This was on thursday-the office was closed for easter bank holiday so I phoned up first thing this morning. Thge automated message said:
If you are phoning to arrange re-delivery the quickest and easiest way is to collect your parcel from our sorting office.
Well no, actually that isn't the quickest and easiest way when the office is only open between set times and people have to work. I have to say there is no wonder people have a low opinion of Royal Mail as we receive very shoddy service from them-why should we have to collect a parcel because someone can't be bothered to deliver it!!! Not only do they not try to deliver it, they will post a card through and when you ring up they will agree to deliver it to a local post office for an extra charge of 50pence!!!!
So I'm now toying with the idea of complaining, but the question is how and to whom???
Any advice and opinions greatly appreciated. Thanks in anticipation.

i have just rang royal mail to see if its policy that lad looked into it and said yes it is ,no first atempt is needed at flats with multi letterboxes.i called the postwatch watchdog the woman was not aware of this policy and is logging a complaint for me at royal mail.so if you live in a flat there is no point in waiting in for parcels or recorded delivery.i want a discount when i pay for parcels in that case as i have to wait 2 days longer for mail .

Why did you ask him if there was anything for the wrong flat and then not get your mail directly from him?

I rang the number and the automation recording said to phone the office in question in the first instance. I did this and was told it isn't standard practice to not deliver to multi occupied business premises and she gave me a reference number and said it was officially logged. I also told her that the message on the ansafone when you ring to rearrange is very annoying-the bit saying the quickest and easiest way is to collect parcel from office!!!
She said she agreed and the relevant office would be contacted and it should not happen again. The delivery guy will always try to deliver before posting a card through-If it does happen again I shall be on the phone!!!!
