alared,
You seem quite 'challenged' in the comprehension stakes.
I am merely pointing out that for the majority of people Ebico is more expensive than the most of the other Utility companies.
That is not something they would easily have gleaned from your posts.
Now have you understood that?
If not, I am certain I can re-phrase it in simpler language; or perhaps you have a family member who can read my posts in this thread and explain it to you in simpler words.
Cardew
Both you and I know that you are talking complete tripe in saying that "for the majority of people" Ebico is more expensive.
Don`t class everyone the same in your BG blinkered world.
Most people are quite able to work out what`s best for them and don`t really need your exaggerated rantings of fictional savings.
Your last sentence just about sums up the type of person you are, when you can`t get the best of the debate you resort to trying to demean people.0 -
Prices apart, Ebico are a transparent company with easy to read billings, backed by a good administration.
What the industry needs, what the public wants.0 -

Yes I am saying exactly that!
For the majority of people Ebico is more expensive.
The UK average consumption is 20,500kWh gas and 3,300kWh electricity and on those figures. On that consumption most of the companies are cheaper.
Even on half the average consumption(10,250/1,650kWh) NPower are considerably cheaper.
We agree on one thing - people should check out who is cheaper; and perhaps appreciate that Ebico raise their prices on 01 April not as you were been telling all all who would listen - September. Haven't noticed any retraction of those statements.
Now have you understood? I mean really understood?
P.S.
Did you not raise the issue of lacking common sense?0 -
I decided to switch to Ebico last week, when their electricity prices for the NW were:-
9.8p 3Kw/h peak
2.55p Kw/h off peak (economy 7)
Now, they are:-
13.84p Kw/h 41.2% increase
4.48p Kw/h 75.7% increase
How can they just say "price of EquiPower will rise by an average of 15%" in their recent price increases????
I think you have misread something somewhere, your quoted E7 cheap rate is in fact the old Gas price.
Pre April 1st
Gas 2.550p per kWhElectricity 9.36p per kWhThat gum you like is coming back in style.0 -
oops:embarasse
You're absolutely right penrhyn, apologies all.
I almost changed my mind last night about the switch when I saw this.
The correct prices before were:-
12.1p Kw/h peak, now 13.84p Kw/h. Increase 15%
3.93p Kw/h economy 7, now 4.48p Kw/h. Increase 14%
Thats more like it and it's in line with the statement from Ebico.
It's better than my existing tariff, (Age Concern from Eon), which is a massive 24.413p Kw/h for first 225 Kw/h, then 13.262p Kw/h. Economy 7 is 5.334p Kw/h.
Sorry again, if it scared anyone else like myself.0 -

Do you, Cardew, believe DD is a desirable form of payment for the consumer?
As service user, you are at the mercy of the power companies as DD will always be manipulated
(aiming for over payments), to suit the financial interests of the service provider and not the consumer.0 -
What you have to remember about Cardew is he`s absolutely obsessed with BGas,who he probably works for,and it`s greed culture from "Cedric the pig" to the latest obscene £1.9 million A YEAR payment it`s boss.
What he doesn`t like about Ebico is it`s Christian, charitable philosophy of helping the less fortunate in society and it`s non-profit making ideals.0 -

Yes I do feel that DD is desirable for me to pay Utility bills.
Personally I don't think it is financially asute to opt for quarterly billing when I get a discount for direct debit. The saving on interest for quarterly billing is nowhere near the potential savings by DD
Also if you are financially astute and are on top of your utility accounts there is not a problem with DD.
According to the Regulator Utility companies are owed far more(debit balances) than they are owed(credit balances). So if they aim for "over payments" they are singularly unsuccessful IMO.
That seems to be supported the scores of posts on this forum from people who have run up debit balances of £hundreds, indeed £thousands. There are very few from people who have run up huge credit balances.
For me the sheer convenience of the DD scheme means I use it to pay every bill I can - water, gas, electricity, council tax, insurances, telephone etc - as long as there is not a financial penalty for doing so.
Obviously quarterly billing or payment by DD is a personal choice, but I cannot agree with your premise that those who are financially asute opt for quarterly billing; Indeed IMO it is exactly the opposite.0 -

I have no problem with DD as such, it is the pre-consumption estimated DD that I have a problem with. My telephone, internet etc. gets taken by DD, but they are all post-invoice, so they will be varying amounts each month/quarter.
I used to get my energy from ’servista’ (God bless them). Every month on the web-site, I put in my reading, a few days later I got the bill and a fortnight (or so) later they took it out by DD. Worked perfectly fine, always paid, always up-to-date, no estimates, whatever. Unfortunately ‘servista’ is no more.
As far as I know, all energy companies use for DD that estimated pre-paid and pre-consumption model, nobody offers a DD scheme that operates post-consumption. After ‘servista’, I was with ‘Scottish Power’ where I had all these problems with over-estimated DD. They seem to be base their estimates some 25% to 33% above the actual use, particular as my electricity consumption (unlike gas) is pretty consistent throughout the year.
Are there any energy companies that give a discount on DD, without the need of an (over)-estimated annual consumption?0 -
I have just started the switch to Ebico. I did a few price comparison website and they came out top. Saving us about £200 a year. Which is what I paid for my gas last year with BG so thats a big enough saving for me to move.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090
