The gas going up by 12% and the electric up on average 15%......Still staying with them now???? I think not!
Well I think SO.
Having just done a check on http://www.ukpower.co.uk/price+updates.asp
The meagre savings I would make by switching is hardly worth it.
It`s hard to believe that a bunch of cowboys like NPower are now coming out top of the tree!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
well at least on that site.
No doubt other sites will have someone completely different.
Calculate your annual USAGE then get the different prices and do your sums.
That is the ONLY way to do it.
For the time being I`ll be sticking with Ebico because a saving of £12 isn`t worth the hassle for the good customer service provided by Southern.
Forgot to add that I`ve been with Ebico for 20 months and this is the first price increase and I do believe only the second in FOUR years.0 -
It's only a rise of £30 per year for me so I'm not bothered. In the past 12 months Gas has cost me a total of only £215.23.
Have checked the comparison sites which claim to save me upto £45, but I've come to find that these sites cannot be trusted. Plus there is this to think about.
No other company offers the single rate charging system without adding in a standing charge.
Most of the 2 tier charging systems dont have a standing charge but the first x unites are priced higher than 2.86p which is the new ebico price.
So over the warmer/summer months when you may use only a few Kwh's of gas, all of this is charged at the higher rate, or for single tarrifs, all is charged at the single rate, plus you get charged the standing charge.
My example, from 7 June 2007 to 3 September 2008- a period of 88 days- almost 1 quater.
I used in that period 254 Kwh's
At todays prices that would cost, £7.26
Compared to the chaepest supplier for me according to Uswitch which is E-on on the Age Concern Tarrif, which according to uswitch is approx £40 cheaper (calculated with new Ebico tarrif)
so
E-ons tarrif is
Tier 1 = 2.871 pence for the first 2860 units (7.342 units per day)
Tier 2 = 2.777 thereafter
254 KWh's over 88 days would mean all units charged at the higher rate
254 x 0.02871 = £7.29
Even when calculating over the year to take in the higher useage periods, it comes out at a difference of £5
Don't always take these comparison sites word as gospel, you have to think about your useage and about how you are charged.[SIZE=-1]To equate judgement and wisdom with occupation is at best . . . insulting.

I am very disappointed with Ebico. 15% rise for leccy? I wish I was so lucky.
They have bumped my price up by 20% . Still slightly cheaper than others though , but only just.

On the UkPower (see Ken68 post #21) site it lists a
New energy Online Extra Saver v6 products added by Ebico.
I cannot see any details on Ebicos site about this. Does anyone have any details ?

I'm still staying with them!!!
I've found their freephone customer service first class, their bills are very easy to understand. Ive also found that were using less energy and their single rate has encouraged us to switch off lights that aren't used, re-programme the central heating etc to save a few quid. And the biggest reason for switching to them is we get billed the same regardless of paying monthly or quarterly, so no monthly direct debit increase 'just because you've used more energy through the winter months' excuse!!!0 -
i will be staying with ebico aswell. They dont penalise me for having a key meter and I like the ethos of the company. I have always found CS to be top-notch.Debt free = December 2010...as of March 2006 it is now January 2010..... as of December 2008 it is now December 2009 :j hopefully sooner!!:jDEBT FREE:j January 2012, took longer but I got there, all by myself, through sheer hard work and pride!0

Just to put things into perspective.
I use more than average(35,000kWh gas & 5,500kWh electricity) although judging by some of the posts on here I use a lot less energy than many.
Taking the latest Ebico prices, NPower are £365 less(25%) E-ON are £202 less and BG £198 less.
However I would totally agree that Ebico seem to be an excellent company and it would certainly not be worth moving if your savings by moving were modest.0 -
So after only the second increase by Ebico in four years, going by these boards I can`t see any mass exodus.
Don`t forget BGas`s track record of putting up prices at least twice a year so another big rise is due about July.
They have the worse customer service of any of the big six and of course only made a profit of £571 million while at the same time whacking up prices by 17%.
If there was any fairness in this world they would be shut down, after having the monopoly in this country for years and fleecing the public blind.0 -
I have looked at the UKPower site, who do seem to have the latest up-dated prices for all the companies.
Trying different methods, gas only, duel and electricity only,it appears even after Ebico`s price increase there are no major savings to be had for me by switching.
The very most is £9 a year, which i can live with, and not having the hassle of switching.0
