Southern Electric prices are going up as of 1st April 08 me being a loyal customer now for 18 months got an email and a letter off them stating this...but they will still be cheaper than everyone else anyway...as for there customer service they have been very polite always wanting to be helpful and don't shake you off the phone at all...I give them 10/10 for everything they have done for me...couldn't want for a better company really...if you are not satisfied then don't go with them...but it will probably be BG holding thing's up rather than southern electric...an A+ company...:)and no I don't get commission...

As for someone's saying that their cs is not good. Sorry... but what exactly do you want from your gas and electricity supplier? Someone in a bow tie and plus fours to serve you samplings of gas from a silver platter before presenting you with a bill printed on the finest grade of gold emblazoned paper? Or... what!? I use the online interface of SSE to pay my bills, and submit readings which are never a hassle to give online, nonetheless their phone was always answered quickly the few times I've had to call them. So no probs whatsover here! Having said that, my energy flows exactly as it did with any other company, but my bills are cheaper. Couldn't be happier with them. Why BG still has anything like millions of "customers" still completely baffles me most confoundedly. Ah well...

All I wanted from EBICO was to either:-

Send details of their tarrif etc as stated on their web site after starting the transfer process.
    Answer telephone calls.
Return messages left on their answer machine.
Answer e-mails without having to send reminders over several days.
Fully correct errors they have made (transfering my gas in error). It took 3 months for the error to be fully corrected, and only when I checked up on what they said they had done did I find a d/d had not been reinstated.

I still want to give EBICO a chance and have them as my electricity supplier.

i spoke to someone today from southern electric and he told me that ebico wont be putting their prices up anytime in the foreseeable future.

Why not ask Ebico when they will be putting their prices up?

They have made an announcement that it will be in the Spring.

I've just called Ebico and their official statement is that there are currently no plans to introduce a price increase, however, it will depend on the wholesale price as to whether they do!

If they do, along the sames lines as Southern, then even as a low user I will be better off staying with npower and asking to move to their online 10 tariff. If they don't rise, then Ebico works out cheaper!! The question is, how long do you wait I guess??

What is frustrating most of all is that npower have also claimed they will make sure I am on the most cost effective tariff as a matter of course - i.e. they will contact me. Clearly this is not the case given that the comparison sites show I can save over £100 by switching to their online tariff. Funny how they haven't mentioned this!

Tempted to change out of principle as a result!!

My pal was told 'this Spring' when he rang. I just rang (0800 458 7689) and was also told no plans etc but 'this Spring'

So we are pleased to announce that we will now “benchmark” the price of EQUIGAS and EQUIPOWER. Essentially what this means is that we’ll match the moves that Scottish and Southern Energy make to their general gas and electricity tariffs. We believe that in benchmarking our prices to those of a major energy company whilst at the same time continuing our not for profit ethos – which means us not having to return money to shareholders - we can continue to deliver competitive prices and help those for whom paying for energy is a major headache. If we can make your home energy package better value we will, and we are always looking for ways to do this. EQUIGAS and EQUIPOWER will continue to remain the best deal for pre-payment meter holders and our promise remains; to be fair, honest, and the cheapest we can.

I can't find the email I got from southern but it was also in the weekly newsletter from mse...

Gas & Electricity: The PERFECT time to switch! The final big six supplier's increased prices
Scottish & Southern, which includes Atlantic and Swalec, has announced 16% gas & 14% elec price rises on its main tariff. This makes it the last of the big six suppliers to do so in the current round of price hikes (tiddler Utility Warehouse put prices up this week too). This doesn’t mean prices won’t rise again, as another round is expected soon, just that compare now and the playing field is level so you can truly see who’s cheapest. Top Overall Comparison Service: Energyhelpline* pays £15 cashback per switch. Alternatives: Moneysupermarket* pays £30 cashback for dual fuel and uSwitch* gives a £40 crate of wine per switch. Full info: Switch Energy, Get Cashback Related Articles: Boiler Cover, Grant Grabbing, Cheapest Home Phones

I've known for long enough that these price's would come into effect on 1st April 08

I looked on Ebico's website on Monday (24.3) and it quoted 2.55p kwh inc vat for gas and 10.36p kwh inc vat for electric - I am in region 11. Today (28.3) it now quotes 2.86p and 10.78p respectively. I did telephone Ebico as I am considering changing my mum over to them and the lady did confirm that there had been a small increase. I am still going to change my mum over as she is currently with Eon, a very low electric user and over the last 12 months has been charged for 69% of her electric at the higher rate (currently 19.25p inc vat) and only 31% (currently 10.55p inc vat) at the lower rate! Eon are aware that you use less electric in the summer and therefore most of your units are charged at the higher rate during this period as it is the first 225 always charged at the higher rate! No wonder they can sponsor X amount of millions to sport at the expense of their customers!

Yep - that increase has changed since yesterday.when I changed over the MIL.

It now doesn't make my electric any different to Eon and my gas is now only £60pa saving, but thats still my money I suppose.

Mmm. I'll keep an eye on my gas/electric a little more closely in future and may change from Ebico in a few months.
  • Where,s all the Ebico fans now that they,ve put their prices up now then??

The gas going up by 12% and the electric up on average 15%......Still staying with them now???? I think not!
