I'm glad it's not just me who can't make them understand what I'm saying when I ring.  Occasionally you get someone more switched on and helpful, but several times I've started to doubt my own sanity.  When I tried to open the Guaranteed Income Bond, you have to do it by paper form, but the form said you could only transfer £10k and only had 5 squares in the amount box, yet they published that you could invest a million.  I queried it, but that's an hour of my life I won't get back.  She spoke to me like I'd taken leave of my senses.

I found this when I googled "4808 premium bond"

Last month and also upon checking today, I have noticed that my nominated account was showing as "National Savings and Investments ****4808". I called NS&I last month when this happened and asked how my nominated account had changed to this "4808" account which was not what I originally specified (I had set it to pay into my own Direct Saver). The helpdesk person changed it back to my Direct Saver but no explanation was given as to why it had changed to an account I did not even have. I have changed it back myself today hoping that this month's winnings is paid in correctly.
The account number for all NS&I Direct Savers ends in 4808 as that’s the sort code and account number that’s used if you want to set up a regular payment from a different bank to your Direct Saver. The reference number is then your Direct Saver account number.

There’s no need to change anything as mine shows that 4808 account number too. It did last month and my prizes were paid in on the 8th February. I expect my prizes this month will be credited tomorrow 8th March.

You used to get die hards on here trying to defend NS&I but now I think even they've conceded to the fact their customer service is just dire. If anyone is in doubt, just take a quick look at the comments on trustpilot.

    Thanks for finding this @southcoastboy

I knew that's their account number, but I thought given it was an account with NS&I, it'd show the internal reference number.

When I called up originally, the Helpdesk person changed it to my direct saver too, with no explanation other than claiming to not know the 4808 was their number (even though I directed them to page on their website showing it was). She suggested it was one I'd adding myself, citing 'there is no NS&I account like that, I don't know how you added it'... This was probably a case of a new/poorly trained agent.

Regardless I suppose, I'm not confident about it changing by itself, so I've have changed mine to my current account provider instead

Then why not just leave it to say Nominated account=direct saver on the account screen just like it does when you first set it to avoid all the confusion? After reading the posts from the user I mentioned earlier, I'd rather not take the risk.

Yes i think it is misleading, had/has me worried. I did consider changing it to an external account but am intrigued now, so have left it as is to see what happens. I will update you next week. Hopefully I will have my money!

£300 for OH and £250 for me on full holdings. First decent payout for me for ages. OH has won double what I've won in the last 6 months.

    3 prizes this month. £100 x 2 and 1 x £50. (£250) I'm happy with that as I had a £300 win last month (5 prizes). (On full holding).

    £75 off £46,000 this month.

Have roughly calculated that I had earnings of 2.13% from the bonds for the 22/23 financial year, which translated to just under £1,000. It looks like the average prize rate over that time was about 2.16% - but that includes the £1m prizes, which obviously I didn't win. Taking those out the prize rate would have been less. So probably a reasonable return for the year overall.
