Premium Bond Winner ?

  • Those £5000 sized bonds really do sweep it with the larger £5k+ prizes.....!

I'm curious......Has anyone ever won 2x (or more perhaps) large prizes in a given month - I'm talking say £5000 + £10000 in a one month draw?

The best I've ever had in a month is a £50 and £100. (not large!)

Also,.....what is your opinion on knowing that an individual bond could actually (and perhaps probably has already!) win many prizes in a month - but you will only ever be issued with the highest value prize.

Is this fair / right / wrong ? - in your humble opinions....

    Thanks, MM

Bought some more last night , holding now £19,000 and something

hoping i dont get two months in a row without a win otherwise i might cash and reinvest

thats the idea of the thread after all

I would have been quite pleased with a result like that trademark - I could have had no wins two months in a row with £19k invested (if that is the right word !!) - and put the balance of my dosh (£11k) elswhere. As it stands have the max invested and for the last two months not received a dime, nothing, ziltch, nought. Will have to go some this month to try and catch up

It is good to hear about someone actually winning a big prize - bet it was a fantastic feeling! Well done.

Thanks hon, it was although I didn't believe it until it was safely in the bank/reinvested.

Sorry for the late reply but i've not been on here in ages.

    :)

Since the big win we've now got the full holding each. The fella didn't win anything in June or July but he won 3 x £50 last month. My first draw was July and I won 2 x £50 but nothing last month.

No big win this month either.

I don't suppose we're likely to get another one though (then again with only a £6000 holding originally I don't suppose we were likely to get one then either, lol).

    :D
  • No big wins for me this month, hoping for a £50!!

nsi even cater to this rumour .... you can sell all of your bonds and have them reinvested without receiving the monies due

is it possible that ernie favours new numbers ...... i dont know ... my mind says no of course not .... but experience says yes

ERNIE can't pick numbers based on date, it just generates random numbers. The vast majority of bonds have been bought since the million pound (and two million pound) prizes were introduced, so surprise surprise more new bonds win, because the vast majority of the numbers are new. Somebody with about £17 of bonds bought in the 60s won one of the £1m prizes a couple of years back.

I would say I think NSI are pouring petrol on the flames with the option of selling and reinvesting without receiving the cash, that will just mean there are even more new numbers and even less old ones.

Good point that, suspect however there is no way of ever knowing whether a single bond will win many prizes in a month. But it must happen since it is mentioned in the conditions.

At least they give you the highest prize, and not just the first winning which may be £50, as opposed to winning again at say £10,000 !

Whether it is right or wrong is another matter I guess - technically, if its drawn, and your win, I personally think it would be nice to have all winnings...but what are the odds!!!

  • So, slightly better spread than last month with:

9 prizes to bonds bought before 1990
    55 in the 90s
    231 since 2000

For this to be reasonable, 6 times more bonds must have been bought since 2000 than are still held and were bought in the 90s.

Why isn't this thread on the gambling forum?

There are 10 types of people in this world. Those who understand binary and those that don't.
  • I suppose some of those new bonds could be people that have won on old bonds and chosen to receive more bonds instead of the cash?
My neighbours haven't bought any for a couple of decades but they hold some new bonds because they've won a few prizes here and there.
  • My father bought my sister and I £5 premium bond each back in 1971.

I was made redundant and added £400 in 1999.

    Never won a bean.

I recently (July 2006) decided to stick some more money into pb's as I wanted it somewhere I could not lay my hands on easily. Now have £1,505 and when I checked online found I had won £50 (min prize) in August.

Have not yet received any money so will have to write (I thought they had my new address since 1999 but seems they may not).

So, I agree with the theory that recent purchases seem to be more 'lucky' than old one's.

One other point I would like to mention.

My father died and his bonds had to be cashed in. The month before they were cashed in his bonds won £200.

My mother died a year later and exactly the same happened - £200

Then, my friends wife died and EXACTLY the same happened to him - £200 again.

Anyone else had this happen to them?
