    each bond has 24,0000/1 chance

    holding £2,000
    ...12/1 of winning each month

on average one win a year
  • I bought £10 pounds worth for my daughter 23 years ago, haven't won a thing. She nows has a standing order and buys them herself each month for £100, she has already won £50!!
    Debt Free!!!
  • premium bonds only have an interest rate of 2.95% (tax free), but the interest is shared through random generation. Therefore, you would hope to get your 2.95% back each year, and if you get more you've beat the odds. But on the other hand (and lot's of people will be in this boat) you will get less that 2.95% and the interest you should have received will be given to someone else as a prize.

    congrats vlad and andy! :)

were they from bonds bought relatively recently?

Managed to now look when i bought them, they were both £100 bonds bought in December 2005 and February 2006. :)

Hi Trademark, I started with £3m and then increased it to £10m. It's now
£13m plus but has taken a long time. This year there has been a prize every month except one. The last one being for £100. I've never had more than that. It has been mentioned in The Times that it's a good idea to sell them all then buy new ones if you want to win more prizes. Never got around to it.

It was a long time ago and I didn't keep a copy (which is what I usually do with Sunday Times articles that interest me). I will try and do a search on the Sunday Times pages, see what I come up with. It's true though, they have mentioned this more than once in their money pages. You'd have thought I would have sold and rebought but, with some things, I just don't seem to get around to it. Maybe I will now.
